What's the benefit (and to who) of sabotage to Nord Stream 1?
I'll give you a counterintuitive answer: Russia.

They're not selling any of the contents of the pipeline right now, so it all represents dead inventory. Experience a sizable leak, and gas prices should increase, at least temporarily.

We know they're hard up for funds as they are trying to outfit hundreds of thousands of troops and feed them. That's a pretty urgent problem. I could see them doing something like this, hitting up the Chinese for some extra rubles and trying to blame Ukraine for the result.

I don't even think it's counterintuitive. It's just that every time I suspect Russia I have to ask how they're shooting themselves in the foot this time.

Possibly. I suppose the problem is that those countries are just saying a blanket "no" without bothering with the circumstances of the individuals concerned, which is a pretty clear breach of international and EU law.
If refugees reasonably pose a dangerous security risk then there's no reason to detain them whilst being assessed.

I'd rather be stationed in a holding centre with access to shelter, warmth and food than fighting in a war I want no part of.

Saying No is just playing into the Russian narrative they're spinning of rampant Russophobia to the west.

Legally they don't really have a leg to stand on. It will be interesting to see what comes of the situation. The Baltic countries don't have a great record with refugees more widely and were pretty rubbish when it came to accepting Afghan refugees.

Are they classed as refugees though? Are they being persecuted in their own country? I think the legal eagles would have a field day.
