Not a chance in earth the US would risk article 5 being triggered by allowing Poland or the Baltics to go it alone mate.

The Baltic countries literally have minuscule armies, Poland has stripped it's reserves and some of it's front line stuff to send to Ukraine already, relying on the US to 'upgrade' what they've given away

Poland and the Baltic countries have been very very vocal, but it's easy to bark when you know you won't have to bite mate - acting without US say so, risks NATO and the EU imploding on divisions, something I don't see the US allowing to occur.

I won't go into the history you allude to btw I'll keep it on Ukraine :)
If you think the US, and indeed the west are going to sit and shrug at this type of thing then I'd suggest you have a very niave view of the world. Russia are a piece in China's grand strategy.

The US position on the Baltic states and Russia is clear and demostrated through actions such as what you are witnessing, even this.

Russia is a global problem, Putins Russia. A threat to Europe and also the US. Even in a world in which Putin managed to get a Manturian Candidate into the White House and see the US leave NATO (it could happen) you would see a realignment in Europe. Nothing is off the table and there is zero chance that any threatened state will not be considering all options to protect its their safety, no matter how much this upsets you. :)

Given that they started off with over 100k troops, and Shoigu reckons there have been only 6k casualties, why does Putin need to call up any reservists as his invading army is still mostly intact?
Same reason we would troop surge in Iraq and Afghanistan. If you're stalemated or losing because you're spread too thin, burying the opponent in boots is a way to get the ball rolling again, and free up your better units to fight on as you use the reserves to hold the dirt you take.

Your point regarding the threat to Dollar and thus PetroDollar and the long standing hegemony of the US are where I personally see this being fought out. Hopefully politically but the threat seems more real everyday of global conflict.

Im certain the formation and consolidation of the BRICS is a real threat to the US power base.

That's the real play but thinking of Ukraine, go into the Ireland reuniting thread and ask the Irish if they've accepted Northern Ireland. There is no way Ukrainians will accept Purins occupation.

Sad fact I don't think they will even match the 100k the US has just put in Poland at least not combat ready. Also, I can't imagine they will have the means to kit out and support their troops as we have witnessed these past months. Do they have any strategists that the troops would follow? So far this seems to be the most telling point. Epic fail. Last gasp to gain more of the nations sympathy which as most talking heads say are still 90% on board. No matter how you spin it Russia will be severely weakened and when Putin does leave the stage who knows the direction of the country under new leadership.
Technology the West has at it's disposal is a noticeable advantage and will negate massive boots on the ground. Stalemate perhaps but Empire building is over no mater what.

Not in our lifetime especially Putin's. BRICS will grow stronger just based on China's rise but they are still lagging.

Watched a few videos on air capability as I’m interested in that having had family in the RAF.

Can’t imagine there will be any carpet bombing by the Russian Air Force. The Ukrainian (NATO) defence systems are too good. At best, previous generation bombers can launch stand off missiles from hundreds of kilometres away.

Big question is why Russia isn’t demonstrating air superiority. I suspect aircraft serviceability is a big part of it. I reckon the Russian air strength has been used as a “missile gap” by hawks in the US MIC and NATO capabilities are hugely ahead.

I say we just bomb Russia now and invade.

In the UK all the men under 40 years of age are automatically sent to the Frontline for on the job training while the men in the 40's and 50's look after everything at home.
If I was the US I’d be offering China the eastern half of Russia if they help break it up (not my personal stance, I would prefer that the Russian people were allowed elections free from mafia interference and the world then respected their choice)
