He is basically admitting "WE ARE FOOKED"

Mate, it's bloody Markov, literally one of the most extreme view points of any Russian going - and for a whilst now outside of any actual influence or power (always felt his 'influence' was massively overblown anyway but he used to serve somewhat of a political purpose (attack dog style))

A nutcase whose daughters death has likely well and truly tipped him over the edge into Dr Strangelove territory now.

BBC even giving someone like that even a platform to rant is disturbing in itself

I am not going to attempt to vault anyone, but at the outset of this horrible act of aggression I was expressing concern about the serious danger of Russia employing nuclear weapons against the West. I received replies suggesting that I was some sort of "woe is me" harbinger.

Fine, everyone is entitled to their views.

What I see now is even worse. If Putin disappeared overnight he will be replaced by lunatics who are quite prepared to go nuclear.

The hope that individual parts of Russia are rising against the criminal actions of the regime does not take away the propensity for hawks who have their fingers on the trigger to unleash devastation.

I just do not understand how there can be such hatred in any individual towards others.

He is a regime mouthpiece, spitting their spin out.

They stupidly believed that they would roll through Ukraine in days. They are now facing the reality that decades of corruption have deicmated their miltary capability and that the sanctions that follwed the disgusting invasion have weakened their position further, thus they are now taking a beating.

They are clearly frustrated and have no answer for nations supporting Ukraines valiant effort to defend its soveriegn territory who are supplying superior weapons (though only a fractional percentage of what could be available). Sending more Russian lads will just result in more Russian deaths. The threat of a nukes is something that they know that they are not immune against. Even a small strike or biological or chemical would totally isolate Putin on the global stage. He has just been told by his supposed friends in China that they don't support his invasion. He has messed up badly with this.

Russia would be better arresting Putin and his mob bosses and beginning the process of paying reparations.

When a country views an issue as an existential threat to it, and a thousand times more when that country is a nuclear power, then it doesn't matter if everyone else in the world doesn't think the situation is that serious mate.

John Mearscheimer predicted all this 8 years ago, in fact he was suggesting this occuring 15 or more years ago.

Back in the Cuban missile crisis we had on both sides back channels of communication and it literally stopped WW3, biggest fear is looking at it now I just don't see that anywhere

He is a mouthpiece in the same way Nigel Farage is in the UK. Great for sensationalist comments but hopefully not representing the actual position.

Did China really say that. Putin and Xi Jinping just met and a couple of days later, this. I'd read into this that China doesn't care as long as does them no harm. I'll be checking in on Taiwan news after this.

Thought it was Alexander Dugin’s daughter that got blown up in a car bomb or did I miss something?

I think that you can assume that Putin acknowledging Xi's "questions and concerns" about the invasion and Putins post meeting statements that he wants a fast conclusion to the war are indicative about what was said in private.

I can see this all back-firing on Putin. Russia has just announced that the contracts of all serving military forces in Ukraine will be extended until the new partial mobilization period has ended, i.e indefinately.

That is gonna seriously piss-off those troops currently in Ukraine who were coming to the end of their contracts. Also they will soon realize that the Donbas, Kherson and Zaparicha are not really Russian, not really their homeland and certainly not worth dying for.

If this ends up with the previously conquered states and republics that currently remain with the Russian Federation pushing for independance it would not be a surprise for Russians to see how friendly Xi really is. By that I mean you can well imagine China moving on the previously lost areas of the Sino Russian border.

Here is one take on China's true position on Russia.

Agreed mate. However, my concern is not regarding soldiers on the ground. It is regarding those fanatics in Moscow with power to trigger massive nuclear devastation.

Putin is apparently physically ill, never mind psychologically, and we are aware that those closest to him are spouting incredibly dangerous ambitions.

He was always extreme, given his daughter was assassinated about two weeks ago in a car bomb attack likely by Ukrainian forces I'm not surprised he's talking very irrationally
As you have highlighted recently, you have more internal knowledge due to your, IIRC being located in the east? In your opinion and this is not inflammatory but a genuine question,

Do you believe, that his assertions of the Ukraine being occupied by forces outside of Russia, hold any weight at all, there is I understand, an opinion held by a few that the Obama administration had factored in a tactical benefit of Ukraine being a NATO member and thus creating a "puppet" government with Zelensky(controversial and tin foil hat firmly on head!) at the head of it, given his lack of any political background, was he a a "placement"? its not like the US have not done this type of thing before.

Are the baffling words of Biden and Truss, in the war rhetoric/sabre rattling perspective, a dangerous escalation and have provoked Putin even further, a dangerous game in my mind given the geo political machinations are way beyond my brain to fully comprehend.

Will Putin act on his assertions?

Markov tone was on the defensive but assertive side and as you say losing his Daughter recently has given him just cause to be slightly unhinged in his assertions, are they really looking to escalate this, in spite of his protestations to the opposite?

What line of succession does Putin currently have in place that would see him replaced by a similar mindset in the event of his demise?

Sorry lots of questions, as you would imagine, given the brinkmanship of the Russians and dare I say it Truss and brain dead Biden!

*edit, it was Dugin, not Markov. So Markov is a nut job then?
