Think I've been pretty consistent calling for a ceasefire. And pointing out that it's easy to call for the Ukraine to fight until they expel Russia from all Ukraine territory including the Crimea from the comfort of your sofa. Please point me to a post where I have suggested otherwise.

Appears even US military strategists are predicting a stalemate, hopefully that may lead to a ceasefire. Possibly the quickest way to end the deaths of civilians?

It’s less abandoning and more to do with looking for a compromise as it’ll be less of a priority and/or the goodwill will dampen when the winter kicks in.

It’ll be interesting to see how much our new PM is willing to back the Ukraine when inflation and energy rises bite and public finances are being squeezed.

It'll be an important part of making people accept that - it won't be "suffering", it'll be "solidarity". Assume the coverage will come back when the crunch starts to hit

Yep stopping shooting off guns, rockets and other bad stuff really cuts down on the caualties for some reason.

Even a N & S Korea like partition would be a step in the right direction - eg. Nobody getting shot, a slow return to 'normality'

A bit of old fashioned Compromise of the - half a loaf is better than getting shot at - thing.
