Russia and China are well embedded in Africa. Lavrov’s visit will be to enforce that relationship - possibly get his grubby little mitts on large quantities of rare earth minerals.

Yes, it is incredibly sad what they are doing to destablise democracies and the rule of law so that they can plunder the resources.

The head of the British equivalent of the CIA, MI6 director Richard Moore, speaking last weekat a widely watched security forum in Aspen, Colo., said Russian forces had received a “very, very bloody nose” and suggested Moscow was “about to run out of steam"

It will probably continue as a grinding war of attrition for a period of time, until both sides see an alternative way out of this,” said Army Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. “Perhaps through negotiation, or something like that"

China's 'Belt and Road' initiative is worth reading into in detail as it has the potential to has provided a strong economic sway over lots of countries.

The positive is they're providing a lot of investment in developing economies, yet the potential for debt-leverage and neocolonialism are genuine concerns.

Emphasis on the potential as we'll likely only see the impact within the next decade or beyond. I'm sure China will be offering to help finance Ukraine's rebirth.

I only heard about this a few weeks ago. So yeah I will do some more digging. Whatever China would want to be, they are and always have been traders first.

The Chinese don’t build things for free, just ask the Sri Lankans and various African countries. Long term debt written off for Chinese ownership
