2025/26 Tyler Dibling

How do you know Moyes is expecting that from him?
I mean, the post you're replying to makes it quite clear that I don't 'know' doesn't it? I think for some reason you're taking the post extremely literally, my point was just that I don't think it's particularly helpful for his development to have only played 400 minutes of football and to keep coming on in situations where we're chasing the game and asking the attacking players to conjure something up with the crowd getting restless etc. I'm not a body language expert or a psychologist but on the face of it he looks low on confidence and the inevitable groans from the crowd when he tries to take someone and loses it when we're desperate for a goal are probably unlikely to help. I was pretty much just thinking out loud saying he might benefit from a run of games on loan, but it's been pointed out that he couldn't be loaned out because he played for Southampton this season so it doesn't matter anyway.

I've just gone back to have a look at the youtube vid of him at Soton, and it's astonishing - I'm sure it's a different player. I wonder if anyone at the club has checked that we were sent Tyler Dibling and not his brother Derek Dibling who plays right back for the Dog and Duck? I mean, he looks incredible in the highlights reel, taking people on for fun, using his strength, running at defenders who back off in terror.

If there is a difference, it's that in the reel he's often picking the ball up in the middle of the park, or in his own half. Last night he came on when were camped in the Leeds half against a low block and he really didn't know what to do. His skill set just doesn't seem to suit that situation. In all honesty, I think he's signed for the wrong club. We are so slow building up and he's all about fizzing bursts of energy. And, yes, he does look terrified at making a mistake right now, while in the reel he's got total belief in what he's capable of.

There is a player there, but perhaps we'd see the best of him against a team that pins us back more, using him as an outlet on the break.

Is he? You must be seeing something I’m not - if he’d come through the ranks without the big fee we’d all be advancing a loan for his development. I don’t think it happens as we’re short of bodies in wide areas but in terms of impact on a premier league match - Armstrong looks more assured and no-one was complaining when he went to Preston.
Different situations
Different times
Different maturity levels

You send a new player out on loan halfway through a season, that's like binning the lad off..
Great for mental strength..

Coming through the system, you pretty much know your next move is a loan..

Dibling/Armstrong are both kids, but Armstrong's Maturity far outreaches his age.
So you cant compare them on that aspect..

I think people are way too harsh on him once again , I don't know why we brought him in to play on the right wing and expect him to hug the line if he's left footed. He couldn't capitalize on his position in the box as it looked like he wasn't comfortable shooting with his right foot. So maybe play him as a ten or even in the left . It's clear he's afraid of losing the ball so he just passes it back because he knows he'll deprive himself of even further opportunities if he turns the ball over. I thought after struggling a little when he came on he actually had some solid moments like setting up Gana's shot that hit the post.

Which is ironic because moyes clearly doesnt trust him to do a job defensively

His biggest problem is the fee we paid for him. Had he have been a relatively cheap 'one for the future' option, then we could get away with putting him in the under 21's or sending him on loan to get him regular game time. Unfortunately £35 million is a very substantial fee,by our current standards, so Moyes and the committee have to put him on the bench, because he just too ineffective to justify starting him every week, to cover their arses for over paying for him.

I think if he started every week for us, he would also have a good highlight reel of going past players and nice touches.

But highlight reels don’t show the 90% of the time when he’s running into blind alleys, giving cheap fouls away and passing the ball backwards. (He didn’t get a single assist at Southampton in the Prem btw)

But yeah picking the ball up on the touch line whilst he’s standing still and the opposition are in a low block - it’s not doing him any favours. Might actually look better in an away game at a good team.

when he has had a go I always thought he looked petrified to try anything because he didn’t want to cock - up.

Last night for me was the game that should have seen him really having a go. We were all over Leeds, the crowd was bouncing, I thought he would have been buzzing off that but he still looks scared. Also, don’t understand why when he lays the ball off he just walks forward instead of making runs demanding the ball back. The lad really is a strange conundrum.

Its a massive problem for me, how static he is once hes laid the ball off. He either has no awareness or just doesnt want to move into space and ask for it back. There was a moment Jake had it and I was thinking "why isn't he demanding that ball back", he pipped up after about 6 seconds offering the pass.

I don't mind the languid style if there is a point to it, Jack does it all the time but then he pops off a pass with pace and then does a sharp movement off the ball and suddenly has 2 yards on the 2 defenders who were marking him.

If anyone can pick a game where he played for the Saints which showcased all his abilities, let me know because I'd love to go and see it. I remember him having a couple of nice passages of play against the rs, but that is literally it.

I was thinking last night, even if Gueyes goal had gone in, at least that would have been his first assist even if it was just a 3 yard pass. Just something to get him up and running and a bit of fire in his belly.

Looked like he was caught in two minds when he crossed instead of shooting, maybe due to a shout from Garner. His final decision making certainly needs some work but he made a mistake last night, as most young players do, and one would hope it's part of his learning curve.
I felt really sorry for him , and us with that cross , because no doubt at Southampton he’d have shot. Unfortunately as has been discussed the move and possibly coaching /management styles has impacted on his confidence .

Appreciate I’m probably in a minority or one but thought he didn’t look too bad yesterday .

I thought he did too.

He has a touch of class that I think will come out more and more. McNeil should never play for us again never mind ahead of him.

Decent enough cameo. Should have taken the shot but tbh, don’t think the angle was particularly favourable and it was a 50/50 decision.

Every time he got the ball that had 2/3 even at times 4 players over to him. He needs an overlapping full back to help him. That being said, sides clearly know he has talent and hes dangerous otherwise they wouldn’t be overloading him so heavily.

He’s 19, he’s learning and he’s got ability - needs time and a bit of a patience
He does, problem is we aren't in the position to pay a high percentage of our transfer budget on a player who possibly won't make any real impact for a full season. City, Chelsea etc have the depth of squad to do it but we don't.

We are though. We’re not getting relegated, not ready for European football and undertaking a major squad transition. Perfect time to purchase some high potential players and bed them in.
