2025/26 Tyler Dibling

There is a good footballer in there honestly but he needs to make decisions quicker. He has a tendency to hold onto the ball too long and gets caught in possession.

Quicker decisions, early crosses, shoot on sight and anticipate when sides will double up on his side.

I've just gone back to have a look at the youtube vid of him at Soton, and it's astonishing - I'm sure it's a different player. I wonder if anyone at the club has checked that we were sent Tyler Dibling and not his brother Derek Dibling who plays right back for the Dog and Duck? I mean, he looks incredible in the highlights reel, taking people on for fun, using his strength, running at defenders who back off in terror.

If there is a difference, it's that in the reel he's often picking the ball up in the middle of the park, or in his own half. Last night he came on when were camped in the Leeds half against a low block and he really didn't know what to do. His skill set just doesn't seem to suit that situation. In all honesty, I think he's signed for the wrong club. We are so slow building up and he's all about fizzing bursts of energy. And, yes, he does look terrified at making a mistake right now, while in the reel he's got total belief in what he's capable of.

There is a player there, but perhaps we'd see the best of him against a team that pins us back more, using him as an outlet on the break.
Just needs a manager who can put an arm around him

We are though. We’re not getting relegated, not ready for European football and undertaking a major squad transition. Perfect time to purchase some high potential players and bed them in.
If we'd bought a truly pacey winger there's no reason why that couldn't have translated into European football and with that a bigger pull in the Summer for players who'd improve the squad. If he'd cost 12-15 million that'd have been a decent risk but at well north of 30 not so much.

I genuinely think a big part of the frustration with him is that we needed pace, the alternative options all had pace, we pursued him all summer for increasingly inflated amounts and he's arrived and has average pace coupled with a very languid style.

He plays like he's in a training match, which never serves you well with our fans.

I think he has a lot of technical attributes which are probably more suited to a N.10 but at the moment he looks like he's trying to find places to hide on the pitch.

They reckon youth scouts touted him as a number 10 long term so this all tracks.

He’s been thrown into the fire massively and I do think mismanaged by Moyes. Still needs to do better when given a chance though, not to always bring it up but lack of any overlapping runs are destroying our wingers capacity to actually create. Some overlapping runs could open up some space to drive into but instead they always need to beat 3 defenders alone

Exactly this. I really do question the ‘strategy’ in the summer. We prioritised a right back, but then left it. Then we prioritised pace but then did the opposite.

There is a reason we had pretty free run at Grealish and Dibling, and it’s because most teams set up to play with lightning quick, high press wingers.

We’re 4 points off a potential CL place. Also, we won’t have paid north of 30 upfront.

We were fighting relegation last few years. The club was a hard sell. We were turned down by many other wingers so the club switched to high potential.

Just give the lad time.

Noticed he tried to beat his man (men as there were usually 2 on him) a number of times. In his previous appearances he has usually taken the safe option & passed back or inside. Presumably this was based on instructions from Moyes.

A shame he didn’t shoot when he had the opportunity. If he had scored I’m sure it would have done wonders for his confidence. Until Moyes dropped him for the next game of course.

ironically David doesn't really play with a natural ten, so he's kind of buggered

You honestly think we can make CL? Every time we get a decent away result and are within striking distance we play at home and blow it. We just don't have the set up to play the majority of a game on the front foot. People keep posting give him time, but if he's not doing enough to displace O'Neil there's something wrong somewhere.

Bit of a stretch there. Ronaldo still looked good, still went past people and still put good balls in. Ronaldo looked sharper than most even at that time. Dibling hasn't shown any of that. I hope it's a confidence thing and he does come good, but the more we see him the less likely it seems. It's mad we spent so much money on a player like that.
Like I said, not at the same level, I am literally comparing him to Ronaldo's worst traits when he first signed for Utd that caused frustration for his team mates.
