2025/26 Tyler Dibling

You honestly think we can make CL?
No I don’t. But you said that if we had a bought a pacy winger we would have had a chance to get Europe? We’re technically in with a strong chance of a European space while also investing in players with high potential and sell on value.

If we'd bought a truly pacey winger there's no reason why that couldn't have translated into European football and with that a bigger pull in the Summer for players who'd improve the squad. If he'd cost 12-15 million that'd have been a decent risk but at well north of 30 not so much.
Most players/agents speak English. I’m not sure how we could have hoodwinked them into saying something which translated into we were playing in Europe.

Investment in young players is obviously a good model. It only works if you find them when they are cheap. As it stands at the moment with Dibling we've paid too dollar for a young player who isn't progressing. That isn't sustainable. With some real pace out wide we may have made Europa League but to compete in that and the Prem week in week out our owners would need to invest substantially in strengthening the squad. Would they do that?
Given we appear not to be able to string two high intensity games together maybe mid table is the best position for us to finish. I honestly would love to see Dibling break into the team and be a weekly starter on merit, but if he can't dislodge McNeil it's not looking good for him.

Europe next season, pretty obvious we aren't playing in Europe now.😉 I think most supporters see that a lack of real pace out wide has scuppered any chance we had of us getting European football this season.

Not quite sure why you responded to this comment with a laughing emoji @Eggs ? Have you ever managed people?

….i reached quite senior levels in the Civil Service, not quite a Senior Civil Servant but close enough. Grade where operationally I’d manage maybe 200.

Why I laughed is your assumption that Moyes isn’t a manager who ‘puts his arm around players’. It’s just this Moyes is to blame excuse without any knowledge of what he’s like.

I specifically got into the home game v Palace very early, a game which Dibling started and what stood out to me was Moyes going out onto the pitch and taking Dibling to one side. Obviously not privy to what was said, but he spoke to him one-on-one for a good 2 or 3 minutes. Said lots to me about him investing time in the youngster.

It’s not a secret, I signed for the RS as a youngster and I honestly never spoke one-to-one with a coach for 3 years. Back then their Boot Room philosophy was only wanting footballers with right mentality, I certainly didn’t but I did understand their approach and it was ultra successful. I’d be sure Moyes is different.

More generally, we hear from players how much they enjoy working with Moyes. The thought that Everton are not carefully managing Dibling and acting in his best interest seems a bit daft to me but unless you’re involved none of us truly know.

I think it would be good for everyone’s mental health if we just forget about the transfer fee and accept he is a teenager who is still developing and isn’t going to make an instant impact. Learning from the likes Grealish, KDH and Ndiaye will be good for his development. Shouting at him from the stands won’t.
This.

This thread is unbelievable in the number of keyboard warriors queuing up to trash a teenager who is still finding his way in the game.

But then I'm sure you are all perfect in your jobs and would all be fine with anonymous figures constantly saying how bad you are.

I don't get this argument to be honest as the way I see it is our problems are at home where Moyes mindset is holding us back whilst our away record is top 4 quality and pace is usually more needed away from home where teams give more space in behind

Defo, along with full backs and 15 goals guaranteed.
I do think they tried for pace but like you said, main targets wouldn’t come. How low do you go on the list just for pace.
Fingers crossed with keep players fit and learn to win at home

Have you seen a goal either home or away were we have broken away at real pace to score? I'd be interested to know which player we have with real pace. As it stands we can't even play more than half a game on the front foot. I'm not Moyes biggest fan but doubt he tells players not to bother tracking back. Let's be honest here we struggled to get points at home against the mighty Wolves,West Ham and now Leeds.

I'm not disagreeing with you that we need to play quicker but my argument is its immaterial as the main issue looking as the disparity between our home and away record is Moyes cautious tactics which work well away from home but don't work well at home. So adding pace is pointless whilst Moyes has this mentality

Like I said I'm hardly Moyes biggest fan but I think it's the players lack of attributes rather than his caution. Silk purse sow's ear and all that.

I'm not sure. As other posters have said Moyes isn't one who plays pacey wingers and even if we did the gap between Barry and the midfield will still be too big so the wide players will be looking for options and seeing not much to aim at.

He has tendency to play wide players with a high energy game rather than pure pace, although Mirallas was no slouch. Early years Coleman gave us pace on the break from wide areas too. Difficult to know if it's just Moyes becoming even more cautious with age or just that the players with pace aren't available at prices our owners are prepared to pay or that they won't consider non CL sides. Early years Moyes had Jags, Coleman and Dustin with pace so it was spread through the team. With this group he's not so lucky. Anyway back to Dibling. If he can't displace O'Neil within the next five games,I worry for his future.

The comment came as a result of a player who looks scared to make a mistake, and the comments from Moyes saying he can't coach him, he needs to figure it out for himself. I would have hoped for more supportive comments and fostering an atmosphere where a promising youngster is allowed the freedom to make mistakes so he can develop. Maybe he needs to loan him to Preston.
