When Donovan's contract runs out he will be here for a couple of seasons if he stays match fit and a going concern for us. Dempsey is way overvalued for us at present, wants a bigger wage packet and champions league football he said so himself. So what I am I missing here? Did Moyes ever say he was interested in the Texan? My bet is we secure perhaps two loans and a purchase around the 6-7 million range. I would like to see Adam Johnson and supposedly we have first refusal. Moyes likes the lad and if Johnson is keen I would say this could be doable. Me I would thrilled to see it.

Right, so there is absolutely no way that Everton could use their newly found additional revenue to purchase players.

They simply aren't allowed to do that.

I remember the time we bought Howard, Lescott and Andy Johnson, where did that money come from?

Whichever way you look at it Everton make profits on player sales OR Everton make losses.

No, what happens when Neville / Distin go say next season....then Osman and Hibbert...then Pienaar then Heitinga and Jagielka.

What happens if someone gets a bad injury or massive dip in form etc etc....

You need to have options...then what happens when those 3 go and we need to replace more players ??

Its alright mate, we will go up a place in the league and gain 20-30m from it or something. That seems to be the argument anyway.

Reading some of the posts in this thread has blown my mind. I dont understand how some people cant see how buying 2 players hitting 30 is a terrible business plan for a club who is skint. Ideally I would like us to sign both and not give a toss about the monetary aspect of it all. But we aint in that situation. Until we are in a position to be a financially solid club EVERY single transfer should be looked at in terms of potential value. Its just the way it is.

Pabs says theres 6 teams keen mate + if we had first refusal it means sweet FA all his agent will know all the proposed offers coming in and who they would come from.

FWIW -- Johnson is another Drenthe /VDM waiting to happen.

Exactly, the Distin transfer I was shocked at when I heard about it -- Moyes even admitted he wanted bassong.

So there are exceptions to the rule as he is still playing very well despite his age, however generally it is mind blowing stuff that would see us sink like a stone if we didnt follow exactly what you say in your final sentence.

Madness / Insanity / Disbelief = Evertonian.

Great post. +rep

Please use paragraphs in future though.

You give with one hand and you take away with the other , I felt exhilarated then admonished all in one moment it's like the Christian brothers and back (shudders) . No problem mate , on my phone so that's my excuse.

I agree with this as I'm big believer in the the safety first approach in the current climate of football (a reason I'm also firmly in the Moyes camp when the debates of the need for change for the sake of it come up).

However, I suppose there is an argument, with what's going on around us at the moment, with all the other clubs you'd consider in the running for 4th coming into the new season in transitional periods (arguably the weakest managers Moyes has had to go up against going into a new season) this could be a one off opportunity to get into forth and actually give the club a new lease of life. And you're more likely to do that with proven talent that you know would succeed in the premiership and would fit our system than you are chancing it only youngsters or players who may need a season to adapt.

If we used a big chunk of the Rodwell money to buy a 27-30 year old I'd be apprehensive because I think it'd be a risk. But like I said, I could see why others may consider it a risk worth taking...

I can see the point mate but every year a manager is only every two or three players away from the champions league positions , the title , promotion, safety etc.. It's just I think the nature of the business , the deluded buffoons across the park prove it year after year with their 'jigsaw signings' and "this is our year" rubbish.

I just think you can make an excuse that every year should be the one you go for it but if you want To have a club that is heading in the right direction (business wise) then you have to make tough decisions . However given the leadership & gaping holes in finance we appear to have I'm not sure it'd ever make any real difference to us sadly.

Perhaps start a new thread as this one has been summed up by sheedy.

Just in time as i'm off to bed.

Agent fees + current wage rises....our current debts....transfer fees will spiral etc etc

But as perfectly summed up by the site janitor --''other operating costs'.

Right, so none of it will go on making additions to the squad, none of it all.

Anichebe will soon be on 75k a week, and our other operating costs will increase to 60 million.

Or, Moyes and Kenwright will choose to spend the additional revenue on improving the squad, in a similar way that they did when buying Howard, Lescott and Andy Johnson in one summer.

No mate, it was the NTL deal.....or something

I'm logging off now....

Gosh I hope not. I hope his head is screwed on better than Drenthe and the pudgy one VDM. Drenthe oozed with talent but to immature to handle the big time. VDM liked his tonic and go a little rowdy after hours which Moyes didn't care for. Notwithsatanding talking out of turn to the Gaffer. His butt got sore from the splinters after that.

Again, Rooneys sale allowed us to buy those players.

Sheedy has spoken....close thread.

Pretty much summed what I've been trying to say over 12 pages....

Bedtime for me soon too,.....lol

I agree that developing youth should be our main strategy for the club but in this thread you've been putting words, unfairly, in TX_Bill's mouth, quoting total b*****'s like ....

(with reference to Donovan + Dempsey)

Exactly !! I think the only people who want these signings are Americans.....for those of us whove had the misfortune to watch the above 2 plus Mark Hughes etc I want to see young players who improve with the club and last a decade -- or be sold so we can further boost the team.

That is just total s**t. lol

Loads of people from all over the place were excited at the prospect of Donovan signing. Check out the Donovan thread.

I can't believe you had the nerve to say that to him as if it was a fact. You're deluded at best.

The points TX_Bill made were good points but you kept on trying to twist what he was saying to make it suit yourself.

I agree with your points in general but you're one of those people that starts lying and twisting other people's words when they bring up valid points against you.
