I think obviously Pienaar ,Donovan & Dempsey are all clearly top quality players who could improve our club I'm also pretty confident we couldnt/can't afford a deal to bring in all three but let's imagine wrist had enough. Then for me although our side would improve but as a 'strategy' for the club would it make sense ? We would have signed three players with absolutely no sell on value , effectively with the wages how many millions would we have absolutely no chance of ever recovering ? If we are to build a club with an eye to the future then I think we have to look at what is (annoyingly these days ) apparently called a 'Newcastle type plan' , buy young and talented and let those players hopefully grow with the club. Many of us , me included, point the finger at the board and their chaotic business dealings but then recommend this as a strategy for the future. I'd love us to have the money and backing to 'hang the expense ' but buying relatively ageing players who demand big wages whilst selling youngsters just called up to the England squad to fund it is a plan that will almost certainly only take us one way long term in my opinion

No, what happens when Neville / Distin go say next season....then Osman and Hibbert...then Pienaar then Heitinga and Jagielka.

What happens if someone gets a bad injury or massive dip in form etc etc....

You need to have options...then what happens when those 3 go and we need to replace more players ??

We would more than cope.

Nobody is denying that those players will eventually need replacing. But you admit yourself that we have 3 players who could generate large sales, they would more than cover it.

And once again, you remain determined to completely ignore that we WILL have a whole load of additional revenue to spend by the time those players retire.

When you say Me, you mean Fans, right?

If so, yes, its the paying publics fault for making football the beast it is today, totally agree.

The phrase tally-ho is a largely British phrase, used in foxhunting, shouted when a rider sees the fox.

Fantastic post yet again Sheedy........I would add though that even with the 3 of them signing there is no guarantee that we would finish higher in the league as the teams above us are already stronger and strengthening all the time too.

Jesus mate, you're like a dog with a bone -- the revenue will disappear it ALWAYS does....look at historical facts...

TV DEAL = Money.....Money gone.

Great post. +rep

Please use paragraphs in future though.

No mate that is funded by selling off anything that isnt nailed down

Right, so there is absolutely no way that Everton could use their newly found additional revenue to purchase players.

They simply aren't allowed to do that.

I remember the time we bought Howard, Lescott and Andy Johnson, where did that money come from?

I agree with this as I'm big believer in the the safety first approach in the current climate of football (a reason I'm also firmly in the Moyes camp when the debates of the need for change for the sake of it come up).

However, I suppose there is an argument, with what's going on around us at the moment, with all the other clubs you'd consider in the running for 4th coming into the new season in transitional periods (arguably the weakest managers Moyes has had to go up against going into a new season) this could be a one off opportunity to get into forth and actually give the club a new lease of life. And you're more likely to do that with proven talent that you know would succeed in the premiership and would fit our system than you are chancing it only youngsters or players who may need a season to adapt.

If we used a big chunk of the Rodwell money to buy a 27-30 year old I'd be apprehensive because I think it'd be a risk. But like I said, I could see why others may consider it a risk worth taking...

What does the extra money go on mate?

Do I really have to break this down for you?

Perhaps start a new thread as this one has been summed up by sheedy.

Just in time as i'm off to bed.

Agent fees + current wage rises....our current debts....transfer fees will spiral etc etc

But as perfectly summed up by the site janitor --''other operating costs'.
