Surely you are just trolling now.

It's the TV money that allows us to compete in the Premier League, without it we just would not be able to.

And the point I'm making, is that the 5 or 6 million pound loss involved in signing someone like Donovan will be more than met by the increase in revenue from the TV deal.

Any increase in TV money will eaten up by the players and increased transfer fees.

Do you not think every Agent in the Country is aware of it?

By the way please do explain how selling ANY ONE of the players you mention today would enable us to sign 2 decent replacements with the money ? Other than the 3 i highlighted.....

So yeah, other than the THREE PLAYERS that we have both mentioned, which would allow us to go out and buy more than a few players, there are a number of other players who could bring us in 4 or 5 million pound each.

4 or 5 million can get you a quality player if spent correctly, we all know that. But why do I need to refer to more than 3 players anyway?

Is 3 players not enough?

I heard Moyes on Talksport during the EUROs, and he was responding to praise about his signing of Jelavic for only £4.5m. He responded by saying 'yes and now if we were to sell him, how much could we get for him'?

Just thought I'd add this to the discussion.

I think Donovan and Dempsey are good players who would add to the team the only question is cost and I trust Moyes to be the arbiter of good value on that front.
And briefly on the Obama front Zatara (sorry, cant resist the trolling). Its naive to think he's been a flop. He has had his hands tied by an outdated two party system and a congressional process that is in urgent need of reform. The next president will be the same.
Well thats my two cents worth as they say round here

So what's wrong with using that money to allow us to have someone as quality as Donovan for 3 or 4 years?

I don't want the extra revenue to go into shareholders pockets, I want it to be spent on the squad, and I imagine it will be spent in that way.

The point is that we are currently at a juncture in which we CAN afford to buy a player like Landon Donovan, whereas previously it may not have been as wise as it would be now.

If Donovan cost £5m then over the course of a three year contract he would more than pay for himself as a result of our higher league placings from him being in the team. The prize money now stands at more than £1.5m per league place by my reckoning and you can bet he'd do enough to move us up a place in the league.

Bren that has to be the stupidist post you have ever made mate........... you're basically saying that by signing Donovan we would deffo finish a place higher in the league..

okay mate.

Ok mate I'm mental. It may not have been £8m. It was reported as 9.4m euros. This was 2009. So it's not exactly unbelievable, Saha is a well-known name even now.

“Louis is someone we had a big bid for,â€￾ admitted the Everton boss.

“But he didn't want to go and we didn't want to sell.

“It's great news Louis wants to stay.â€￾

Why would he say big bid if it wasn't? It was obviously a significant bid worth a few million at least.

Instead of selling and being ruthless and confident, we persisted with a player who could not even be bothered to run for another few seasons.

Note how he said he didnt want to go before he tagged on the and he didnt want to leave.

Note it.

No, what happens when Neville / Distin go say next season....then Osman and Hibbert...then Pienaar then Heitinga and Jagielka.

What happens if someone gets a bad injury or massive dip in form etc etc....

You need to have options...then what happens when those 3 go and we need to replace more players ??

Im not against buying Donovan.

I just think its silly to assume that increased TV revenue means extra money to spend, im fairly sure any increase will be swallowed up.
