The Moyes influence on Everton.

Massive improvement is good enough for me to approve of a manager, if Martinez leaves us the same legacy as Moyes, we will be in a very good place when he goes.

Being born in 1985 and watching Everton from about 93/94 one thing moyes done for me which am forever grateful is, when the fixtures first came out for the new season the very first thing I would do is look to see who the last three games were case we was in another relegation battle, I haven't done this now for about nearly 10 years or so, its all about the first few games of the season an when the first Derby is gonna be, so for this I say thank you Mr Moyes.

I think I understand what you mean. Like, Moyes massively improved us from what he had when he joined, so if Martinez massively improves what he took over, that would be good? Cant disagree with that.

Martinez has been given funds.. Moyes wasn't.
Moyes only sold to better the squad, Martinez can just better the squad.

Don't underestimate the amount of difference the sky deal has made to our ability to buy players without selling..
Moyes was given funds, he broke our transfer record on numerous occasions.
The difference for me is RM fights to keep his players and to improve the squad
DM just went with the boards instructions

Let's not forget I was a big fan of DM, and always will be

If you look at every purchase we made under Moyes it was always balanced by big names leaving.

Moyes fought really hard to keep his squad, probably to the detriment of the team in the end as things need freshening up every now and again.

Time does strange things to ones thoughts....its all about opinions....Last 3 to 4 years we got very stale..playing the occasional game with some good footy...The punching above our weight stuff didn't sit well at all well ... The favouritism to certain players...The away games jeez hated them ..Travelling to London and spending a small fortune to watch us when you just knew we going to play NOT to get beat...Was ok with him when he came and turned us around and got a bit of our identity back.... but at the end couldn't wait for him to go..as I said all about opinions... Up the toffs

I disagree over fighting hard to keep his squad, unless you mean the mediocre players we kept

Can't think of one of our stars that went on the cheap or without a fight.

He clearly wanted to keep together what he thought was a very good squad, the problem was he couldn't add to it.

Most talented youngster in the squad (purchased) = Stones
Back Four = All Moyes buys
Barkley debut = Moyes
Most talented player in the squad = Mirallas

SNIFF IT MOYES HATERS

Any merit in that post disappeared the moment you nominated Mirallas as being the "most talented player in the squad".

Without David Moyes would we be one of 7 clubs never to be relegated from the Premier League? I doubt it very much, so on that count alone we should be very grateful. I'm not sure what happened at the end and his year at MU was a disaster, but for me, he maintained us as a Premier Club which given the resources available throughout his tenure was no little achievement.

I can't agree with the assessment that without Moyes we would have been relegated.

It has only happened twice in our history, the last time before even fellows of my vintage were born, so precedence suggests that with or without Moyes we would not have been relegated.

I have seen some dire Everton teams in my half century of going the game which avoided the drop despite said direness.

We don't know what would have happened if Moyes hadn't came here.

He did a very good job for the first half dozen years but I think most on here agree he stayed at least two years beyond his sell by date.

Sadly he rather tarnished his reputation among Blues with his behaviour toward our club in the first few months of his OT tenure but what the heck.

Bygones.

Moyes was given somewhere around 11m over 11 years. The rest he made himself through buying and selling, he wasn't given the money, he generated it himself through his transfer ability. That he broke the record three times is just testament to how well he actually did, especially when he never even got all the transfer money year on year.

How many times did we sell players for more than those record fees?

Those record signings cost less than Jack Rodwell sold for and to be honest, its more a sign of how skint our club was, than any indication of backing received.

Martinez has already signed 3 of the top 5 most expensive players in Everton's history and hasn't had to sell to do it... That's my idea of being given funds.

We were close repeatedly, and maybe it was just a matter of time, how many last days can we get away with it? I don't know, but I'm inclined to agree with you, we were relegation fighters, but we still had enough about us that I don't believe we would of gotten relegated.

It was certainly a scary time and certainly not nailed on for our survival but saying we would or wouldn't as you say is just a guess.

Moyes.
Asked on Friday if he had sympathy for Martinez, Moyes said: ‘I definitely do. But I also know that if I was the Everton manager and Sir Alex had come asking for Baines and Fellaini, I would have found it very difficult to keep them.

'I always felt the right thing to do was what was right for the players.

‘All we can do is our job here. Roberto is in a new job and I am sure he will get to understand how Everton work. I know exactly how Everton work. I signed every player at Everton.
