Yes that’s the case for colston. Colston isn’t Churchill. Start ripping down statues of Churchill and I think you’ll see a pretty different reaction from the country. That’s the only point being made.

How about this chap:

Are we saying a little bit of slavery is OK if he has done something in battle later?

The butcher of Gallipoli for starters. Does that take away from his role as PM during the 2nd World War, no. He should be honoured for that, doesn't mean his past should be whitewashed though.

Its been whitewashed since he was alive... Up until the internet you had to go some way out of one's way to get a true account, warts and all.

Baden Powell this morning...
Why do I get the feeling theres an army of anarchist keyboard warriors scouring the internet al la the Mason Holgate - firmino affair- trying to discredit as many notable british public figures as possible.

The internet makes it so easy now, no more looking for obscure books or articles, it's all there in indisputable fact, it's very gratifying, in an academic sense of course. More to the internet than spaffing.

I wouldn't say all of it tbh, he was a rising star in the admiralty fit for greater things before he made that folly. He was then shunned from the front line never to return if it hadn't been for WW2. As for character traits it was commonplace at that time so why would anyone highlight it?

Have I ever called anyone a bigot, racist, ostrich, or gammon?

It's quite an interesting argument to say that people should stop 'do goody' should they 'do baddery' instead?

I have no problem with do gooders but as is always the case they often tend to overstep the mark and start charging past common sense actions which turns alot of regular folk away.

Look we get it - you on the far left love radical ideas - but the majority doesn't- far left, far right has no place in UK society and you'll never win support by doing what those protests are now doing including the sudden purge of our historical monuments - something that does nothing to actually help tackle racism in this country just more a tick box exercise for the social warrior type on twitter to get likes and followers.

If the authoritarian mob decides to stop with its violence & actually fights for equality, better opportunities and an end to poverty let me know and I'll happily support them.

Please point me to far right goons who were attacking police, ripping down statues that people had democratically chosen to keep all whist potentially spreading a killer virus.

If you can I'll happily slate them aswell.

I can point you towards the four policemen who killed an innocent black man that started this whole thing if you like.

Or you can have a look at what happened in Charlottesville a few years back, or even now where people who don’t agree with the protest are there inciting trouble.

And, again, do I really have to mention the role of the police in all this.

This is what happens when you get protests that filter out around the world. Some people on both sides of the argument lose the meaning of the struggle and just try and cause trouble.

For someone who keeps telling us he’s centre left you only seem interested in pointing out the trouble caused by one side. Why is that?

Do the pyramids offend Jewish people?
Are Jewish people still experiencing the effects of being enslaved and used for free labour?
that’s a question for Jewish people but to my knowledge I’m not aware of any movement to remove them.
This sounds argumentative. It’s not meant to be. It’s more making the context point.
Many would say an unequivocal yes right back from the time of Exodus.

So in the USA - a completely different society and culture with different police.

Why do I get the feeling some WANT there to be a bigger race issue than there is currently in the UK all so that it validates the minority to cause destruction and trouble all so they can say "they had the right to"

Race relations in this country will be worse after the weekend - something completely against the aims of the BLM movement - maybe ask why.
