People cherry picking good and bad deeds from a persons history is a dangerous game - Okay Gallipoli was a tragic episode in WW1, but maybe that event changed something in Churchills makeup that would eventually become a positive in his role in WW2 he was continually taunted in parliament about it for may years. The butcher of Gallipoli for starters. Does that take away from his role as PM during the 2nd World War, no. He should be honoured for that, doesn't mean his past should be whitewashed though.
Or - if he'd been held accountable for Gallipoli and faded out of the public eye, we all might be speaking German now - and we certainly wouldn't be discussing the rights and wrongs of history on a public forum that's for sure.
