Then if you were the minister carrying the can, perhaps you might just have a few harsh words the ‘accounting officer and chief advisor’ who isn’t pulling his finger out. The HO minister needs people who can advise how to get things done and then ensure it is... I appreciate that I have no personal experience of dealing with him, but then again I’ve no personal experience of dealing with Jeremy Corbyn either, and I had him weighed up quickly as well......

er - you largely repeated what you had been told there as well.

I just watched him on the BBC. He looked and sounded just as I had imagined he would, a weak chinned, over promoted wimp. He knew there was a deadline of the end of the year, he knew there were a number of major programmes that needed to be delivered, and he packed it in because of how she spoke to him. Ah diddums. How in gods name he ended up in charge of a 35,000 strong department within our civil service sums up why we never get anything done .......
Could easily be Cummings or Johnson you are describing.

Oh I understand the money, size of projects and scale of the portfolio, although I’m not sure he managed hundreds of thousands of staff. So for all of the above, can you name just one single programme that came in on time and to cost. There must be one.

Also, just over a decade ago, I was brought into one of the railway companies to act as their Interim Operations and Delivery Director, responsible for all Finance, Commercial, Engineering, Design, Installation and Maintenance, to hold the reins while they went through a major reorganisation. Now I saw what was happening within many of the UK’s rail projects and tbh I wasn’t impressed. So I await with anticipation the single programme that your man, Philip, actually delivered...
Regardless of topic, the core of any argument by @peteblue seems to be 'i am better than you' which is in direct contrast to all available evidence.

Would you care to quote your experiences with the civil service......
Would you care to justify your high and mighty experiences in "big business"....what exactly did you do? How many people did you tread on to climb the greasy pole? You wouldn't remember anyway.. just be resources to you wouldn't they?

I didn’t tread on anyone, I developed and brought people, good people, along with me. That’s the secret. What I did I did well and other companies could see it. I sat on the Boards of a number of very large companies, I was the CEO and President of a smallish (by comparison) American Company and as part of my retirement I was an Interim Managing Director or Director with a number of International companies to help turn them around. I worked all around the world. I ran some of the biggest programmes undertaken by U.K. industry and acted as a government assessor to a number of U.K. high risk government programmes. I also ran a small consultancy and training company just to keep my hand in. Now there are plenty of people who have done more than myself, but I did alright for a scruff from Liverpool.......and now I just own an art gallery and part of a pub and I post on here......there you have it......

I hear they're replacing him with @Baines' left foot because his planet size biceps are what you need in a leader.

I thought machismo went out of style after Jack Welch turned out to be a bit crap, but maybe not.

It‘s not machismo Bruce, but mental toughness and a desire to deliver are key qualities as far as I’m concerned. Just do the job you are paid to do, no excuses, just do it......

No mate, we all have experiences and knowledge, I just comment on things where I happen to have some experience and knowledge. It’s not a case of I’m better than you, I just give my view as I see it. You can take it or leave it, I don’t really care, but it’s there anyway......
