I didn’t tread on anyone, I developed and brought people, good people, along with me. That’s the secret. What I did I did well and other companies could see it. I sat on the Boards of a number of very large companies, I was the CEO and President of a smallish (by comparison) American Company and as part of my retirement I was an Interim Managing Director or Director with a number of International companies to help turn them around. I worked all around the world. I ran some of the biggest programmes undertaken by U.K. industry and acted as a government assessor to a number of U.K. high risk government programmes. I also ran a small consultancy and training company just to keep my hand in. Now there are plenty of people who have done more than myself, but I did alright for a scruff from Liverpool.......and now I just own an art gallery and part of a pub and I post on here......there you have it......
And you still get invited to gatherings that only those who belong will be invited to!

Don't forget that.

It‘s not machismo Bruce, but mental toughness and a desire to deliver are key qualities as far as I’m concerned. Just do the job you are paid to do, no excuses, just do it......

To borrow a phrase from Bob Sutton though, you don't need to be a bosshole when doing it. Travis Kalanick got results, but was a horrible individual.

There's little evidence that Patel is anything but a nasty piece of work.

No sympathy for this Rutnam he is a Tory truckler who has served his purpose and got the hump because he been forced out.

Did not hear him speak out about Windrush, and his other roles, HS2 East coast main line etc.

A rat takes a bite of another rat.

Civil servants don't tend to speak out, which is what makes this so unusual. Their job is to actually do stuff, as I've said to you repeatedly, and the same people would have worked on Labour's plans had they won the last election. You don't have a Tory civil service and a Labour civil service. They act impartially.

His beef isn't that Tory policies are good or bad, as they should have no opinion either way really. His beef is that her approach was horrendous.

If doing stuff is defined by such policy as Windrush, no wonder the centre ground is morally bankrupt... This Tory truckler could have resigned when implementing Windrush. This useful rat has served his purpose and has the hump because he is surplus.
And It's not unusual for civil servants to resign there have been few over the last year and publicly.
We get what we vote for!

Grenfell Tower thread is closed so I thought I'd put this here as Suella Braverman is responsible for the decision.

Corporate witnesses granted immunity from prosecution.

they haven’t, just told that what they say at the Inquiry cant be used in any trial (though they might well try to go with the tainted jury pool argument subsequently)

The problem here is that I’m talking about the PS and everyone else seems to be talking about Patel. I agree that she has probably gone in with fists flying but I’m quite glad to see useless people like Rutnam pushed out......

I had never heard of him till yesterday. What has he done that makes you say he is useless?

He‘s achieved nothing. He should have been sacked earlier but slid away. Now, at a time when there is an absolute deadline to get things done, he resigns because some woman shouted at him. Absolute wimp and waste of space....

Like what? Has he an awful track record as a civil servant that you know about?

Correct, just those who know what they are talking about....
"We all just get together and trade half baked ideas from the Telegraph and Guido Fawkes. It's a wonderful time. Every now and then I'll say something completely wrong but add 'we shall see' or 'lest we forget' at the end so I don't appear completely foolish. If anyone actually asks me for clarity or evidence I make an excuse about being terribly important or needing a drink then slide away only to come back later with a complete change of topic designed to distract from my previous embarrassment. It's terrific fun and they don't let any of the wrong sort in".

He was in charge of the HO when the Windrush fiasco blew up. He did the slidey shoulders bit and went missing, even the CS say this. Amber Rudd took the blame and resigned. When called before MP’s he apparently claimed that he’d only been there a year and was not an expert in immigration.

Prior to that he was in charge of the DfT and oversaw every cost overrun and delay to HS2 and every other major rail programme. He should have been sacked many times over.....
