Like what? Has he an awful track record as a civil servant that you know about?
He has absolutely no idea. Pete is walking a line that doesn't seem to account for:

If he's a civil servant and has achieved nothing, then neither has the government he supports(ed)

He's not resigned because Priti Patel has shouted at him, he's resigned because of her conduct.

If he should've been sacked but wasn't then that's not the strong leadership he is extolling in the government.

I love the way you defend to the hilt some useless bureaucrat just because of Patel......I think she has acted badly, but at least it’s helped to get rid of a waste of space like this guy.....

I'm not defending him.

I wish be had been as principled and devoted the same energy into windrush as he has about defending himself from Priti Patel.

He was in charge of the HO when the Windrush fiasco blew up. He did the slidey shoulders bit and went missing, even the CS say this. Amber Rudd took the blame and resigned. When called before MP’s he apparently claimed that he’d only been there a year and was not an expert in immigration.

Prior to that he was in charge of the DfT and oversaw every cost overrun and delay to HS2 and every other major rail programme. He should have been sacked many times over.....

As always, Pete you should check the veracity of what you read.

Firstly this bloke was at the HO when the Windrush scandal came to light, but he wasn’t there when the policy was brought in and the people started to get done over by it. The then PM was, and we know she was warned about the problems because she was told to her face in Parliament about them. To suggest Rudd was misled by him is the reverse of what the truth is.

Secondly he was at DfT but the waste there is not down to him - it was the consequence of entirely political decisions (HS2, the franchise system, selling off HS1, putting East Coast out to tender again), all of which were taken by the Government. In fact all the things you regurgitate criticism of are still going on now, which should tell anyone with even a slightly independent thought process that perhaps he wasn’t the problem?

Everywhere he’s been has been failure and excuses. As I asked another poster, just name any successes or anything he has delivered....I have said nothing about misleading Rudd, you must have read that elsewhere, and the guy that was at the HO before him was none other than Mark Sedwill the current head of the CS, so which one should be sacked in your opinion....

Weinstein was only a bit flirty, it's fine.

Pete he’s been a civil servant for 33 years, and for most of that time there’s been a Tory government. Now I agree there hasn’t been many triumphs in that time, so I welcome this discovery of yours, but I’d rather it had come from some other source.

Rutnam had been a civil servant for 30 years, to suggest that he chucked his ticket in because ‘Patel shouted at him’ is utterly ridiculous. As if the man hadn’t seen and been on the receiving end of all kinds of ministerial idiocy in the past ffs. For him to walk due to the behaviour of Patel, shows that she’s obviously on a different level.

Pete seems to be describing a litany of failures of a government he claims will lead the UK to become a post EU global powerhouse.

TBF I don’t think this is even that much about Patel’s behaviour - as you say there’s a long history of ministerial idiocy so her antics aren’t anything new.

What is more likely is the CS as a whole is trying to prevent the logical outcome of what Cummings is up to - which is that No.10 dictates policy, it’s everyone else’s fault when it doesn’t work and they can ruin the lives of anyone they feel like. As a recipe for disaster it would be alright, but it’s hardly the way to run a country.
