As said, we're not going to solve everything by getting shut of the nuclear fleet of subs. But it'd save £3B alone in up keeping them each year. That's the annual budget of 3 large hospitals per year. If those new generation subs to be phased in by the 2030s are scrapped then that's a handful more hospitals financed for the next few years.

I know what I think is more sensible between having a hospital running or a submarine at sea every day whose use is no value to anyone.

Financially, it is having a hedge or a fence.

Peanuts get spent on trident.

Why do you think Putin, nor anyone tbh threatens the U.K. We have a nuclear deterrent. Ukraine gave up its nuclear deterrent, how did that turn out. You may not like what we spend on our nuclear fleet, but it is the best and economic means to ensure our survival. The ability to guarantee mutual destruction makes people stop and think. That’s why only ‘weaker’ countries get invaded…….

Pete do you not think geography has anything to do with being invaded? Or a disputed history of Borders and cultures? Personally I think Ukraine being part of historic Greater Russia is more of a giveaway..

The same reason that they don't attack any member of NATO.

@peteblue do you accept all foreign policy is a product of negotiation and compromise? The UK couldnt or wouldnt go off and so soemthing radical without checking it with their allies.

Trade deals with Australia etc - estimates on the impact on our economy vary between 0.02% and 0.08% (governments own best case figures for next 15 years. Is that really worth shouting about?

Last can you please point to anything tangible that has improved for you since Brexit? Something that has benefited you in a noticeable way?

@peteblue any chance of a reply?

It is, but do you think Putin would have invaded if Ukraine still had its nukes. Also while Russia blows up Kiev and the rest of the country do you think Ukraine would have held back on attacking Moscow in a similar vein…

Indeed. But the only members of NATO that definitely won’t be attacked are the USA, U.K. and France, and there’s a reason for that……

As far as I'm aware mate NATO doesn't have a Gold Card club that gets first class protection for one member nation over another. If Russia ever invaded Poland they'd get the same treatment as if they'd tried to invade France. Doesn't matter if you have nukes or not.

Does that demonstrate the success of NATO against Russian colonialism, and why many former Soviet colonies want the protection NATO offers against Russian aggression?

No wonder Ukraine wanted and wants this protection, eh.

Ok, so if Russia invades one of the Baltic countries, would the USA, U.K. or France fire off its nukes. No. We would fall back then retaliate. If Russia then nuked Poland, would USA, U.K. or France nuke Moscow, I still doubt it. If Russia nuked a part of France, UK or USA would we nuke Moscow, absolutely and they know it…..
