Because some people cling to misery

The only reason there might have been one this season would be to talk about other clubs in it.
Everton were a big part of the discussion in the relegation threads on here the past few years.
Though ive just been told i've imagined that apparentely.
Who knew.

Why. We havent been anywhere near it since day 1.

Because some people cling to misery

Same line of thought as the likes of this;

Everton have had 5 years of either hovering around relegation or last day escapes.

It's why I often try to remind folk we've been nowhere near relegation for 3 years now, closer to europe than relegation in each.

But we'll have people worrying next season too if we have a slow start.

Because he's been manager here for about 15 years? This was always going to be the case, it was obvious from the outset.

It's also because context is a thing, and fans knew previous managers had a tougher gig/and we weren't sacking the likes of Dyche in the chaos we were in.

Everton haven't had 5 years of hovering around relegation or last day escapes prior to Moyes.

It might seem it, but it's not true.

We had 2, Palace/Bournemouth and the full season prior to him arriving we'd earned the points for 12th. The points we have now with 3 to go. Point deduction is a very valid mitigating factor.

As for comparisons to Villa as though it was just a blip - prior to Emery arriving they'd been in Championship for 3 years before promotion via play offs, then 17th, 11th and 14th. So your argument of a blip for them and it not us doesn't stand.

[edit] The argument against Emery is he's spent a fortune at Villa, but if Moyes took over I very much doubt they'd have done as well. There's a reason Emery has won 4 Europa Leagues and titles elsewhere.

Midway through last season we were 1 point above the relegation zone with loads of our fans telling us every waking minute of the day that no manager would possibly be able to come in and get a tune out of our terrible players.

The poll is asking the wrong question.

We can’t go into a season with a manager in his final year. Players will ask in the summer who they’re signing for. Players can down tools on managers they know are going.

The poll should be, new contract for Moyes or new manager as that is the decision facing the Freidkins. There’s a lot of fans ok with another year of Moyes but the reality is it’s probably a choice between another few seasons of Moyes or someone else.

I mentioned earlier it is going to be down to unknowns, for us.

If the board feel they have a good idea of a succession plan, even maybe knowing the person taking over then your issue becomes null and void.

I would say that it is more or less null and void anyway. Players, apart from a few, are mercenary. If they know that they are getting paid a decent amount of money, the risk of who they may or may not have to win over in 12 months is not going to affect their decision to sign, as much as the guaranteed money they will get. If they are confident enough then they know that they will simply move on again.

I would also be less confident that the likes of Garner, N'Diaye, Dewsbury-Hall, Branthwaite, etc. are down tools types of players, for this reason. They will be wanting to early impress a new manager coming in or impress teams to buy them if it comes to that.

I honestly would not put too much into the last year of contract thing. I am not saying it definitely would not happen, but my feeling is that it more unlikely than it is likely.

You're talking about season end.
January last season Everton were a point outside the relegation drop zone. Hence why the relegation thread on here was always at the top of the page.
There has been zero need for it this season.

In excess of 200 million net spend for the mighty hammers.

Left them with an aging squad on high wages.

There was an article on Sporting Life last week about how West Ham going down would be one of the greatest failures in Premier League history and it features the line below which stood out to me.

" the dreadful decision to hand a progressive coach like Potter an ageing squad sculpted in the image of David Moyes."

From that article, this is very interesting.

The trouble is, in a very short space of time we have moved from a 34,000-capacity stadium to one where we regularly get 55,000, and which could increase to 66,000. David Moyes has spent roughly £450m and a lot of the frustration comes from the fact he still relies on 12 to 13 players.

"A lot of money has been wasted over that time and he really struggles to spend money on a striker. Sebastien Haller - £45m. Gianluca Scamacca - £35m. We have relied so much on Michail Antonio. Only recently have we felt that without Michail we can start to do something.

"You also have a situation where West Ham has the best crop of young players it has had for a very long time; we won the FA Youth Cup, are second in Premier League 2, are unbeaten in the Premier League International Cup.

"It is a bunch of 17 and 18-year-olds who are beating not only 21-year-olds but adult teams in the EFL Trophy (West Ham are one of two Premier League teams left in the competition and play Wycombe in the last-16 next month). But he doesn't give youngsters a chance.

"Sometimes we can have a whole half of football and not have a shot on target.

Emery walked into a good squad. I can still remember posts on here about how bad must gerrard be sitting in the bottom 3 with that squad. I dont think emery takes that job with any genuine relegation worries. He knew what he was walking into. Was very early in the season.
Bit like emery howe took over from bruce after 8 games. He won a trophy after 5 years and 600m spent.
Palace i cant remember them being anything other than bang in the middle of the table. Might be wrong but they always seem to be bothering neither end of the table lol.
Everton have had 5 years of either hovering around relegation or last day escapes.
I havent voted in this pole simply because i'm not sure who would be replacing him.
I wasn't looking to judge you on your answer, just highlighting those 3 clubs have been relegated then promoted then won a pot while we have remained stagnant, whatever manager we've had.

I think it was more a mentality thing, outside of the very close shaves with relegation it was always more likely that we would lose games, especially if we conceded first. It heightens the angst, despite the reality is that is not as bad as it seems.

I think the last 18 months, when we have conceded first, I have always felt that we were in games, or at least had the ability and mentality to get back in games. Even the City game where they absolutely dominated fro 45 minutes, we came out and it looked like we might get something.

We very rarely saw that and in the Dyches last season, I would say we may not have seen that at all. We have not looked down once this season (well maybe the doom and gloomers have been ;), well down past 13th anyway. That is a big mentality shift from previous seasons, regardless of what the season finished up as. Also, one of those seasons where relegation was 'not a possibility' was all down to Moyes coming in and getting us away from it. It was a massive possibility without that boost.
