Succession Planning - Managerial Wishlist

Youre right, but that's not really the point I'm making. What I'm saying is that Iraola has done well at Bournemouth. He came to the club, having taken Vallecano to 11th place in La Liga (so not a big track record of success) and he got his first win after 10 league games - those first 9 included a 4-0 home defeat against Arsenal and a 3-0 away defeat against Shaun Dyche's Everton.

It isn't about him specifically, I'm suggesting that as a fan base I don't think we would tolerate that - there's no reason to think that he would do the same again anywhere else, it's more than it would be difficult to imagine us having the same patience in the same situation, but that patience has allowed him to eventually do well there.
Well no, that's where context comes into it isn't it? This is a big job with big expectations and anyone who gets off to a slow start will come under pressure, as they would at other clubs with big fanbases and high standards. Bournemouth at the point he took over was obviously a different thing entirely, they'd only been promoted a year earlier and had spent most of that season in the relegation zone, with regular runs of consecutive losses throughout the year and a 9 (NINE)-0 defeat thrown in, so such a run wasn't hugely out of the ordinary. I'm not sure 'ideally whoever takes over won't lose home games 4-0' is something we need to debate really.

He raised expectations with last seasons 31 points from 19 games. This season he's done the opposite.
Did anyone expect Europe last year, No, a month ago did we expect Europe, yes. Thats called raising expectations.

Some people are lucky this forum has no intelligence tests to be able to use it.

Hope not, why downgrade on a manager.

Erm....

I dont agree with that for the million reasons we've discussed over the years, even now we are hare's breath away from Europe, with a squad largely in relegation battles the last four years, give or take a player or two - the trajectory is upward.

People talk about trophies, but no one looks at how winning trophies has change d in the last five years - the real chances increase via Europe and not domestically - you have more of a chance to win the Europa League of Conference League then you do FA Cup and League Cup - certainly the PL IMO.

The first step in Europe and year one in to the Moyes project, with a limited squad and after years of under investment, we are almost there - the trajectory is upward, with more investment coming.
I want to believe this but feel Moyes keeps fluffing his chances this season.

I would take few people over him because of his past achievements.

Ireaola ( spelling ) would be one of them.

I get the concern here, by why are we assuming Ireaola would make a bad start?

Even Dyche won his first game.

Look at the mistakes in recruitment under Moyes last summer... Why not give a Glasner, Ireaola a run?

They're doing the job NOW that Moyes was lauded for doing here 20 years ago that he's failed to replicate anywhere since, including us, now.

I get the loyalty to Moyes,a big part of me wants to see him rectify last summer's mess and/or those signings come good next season.

But I have lost trust that they or he will.

Well yeah that was my original point, that there's no real reason to suppose that he would.

He'd get eaten up and spat out here mate.

There is a whole generation brought up on not having an Everton manager for more then 18 months at a stretch.

A Churn generation, that wont wait for a whole philosophy to be embedded, if it means 8 bad results on the trot - its why Glasner, Iriola and Dude at Brighton - thrive there, those clubs dont have the expectation that's here, here is a different ball game.
I just don't think it takes years for Iraola to implement his philosophy here tbh. Bournemouth were criticised for dumping Gary O'Neil to bring him in, and that criticism lasted about 5 minutes because it was clear to see what Iraola was building there, long before their unprecedented success this season.

Yup, Ireaola 's first months weren't easy either. I just feel the guys can bring in quality players beyond the ' needs prem experience' limitations of Moyes and others.
. This impacts everything from finances, playing style to culture on and off pitch.
