Succession Planning - Managerial Wishlist

No point in looking at managerial succession now if we haven't got the structure and systems in place for them to succeed.

We've had a year of relative stability, but there is still a lot of work needed to make sure we have the right set up to drop a new manager into.

IMO, the onus should be on carefully managing Moyes to see if he can work within the club structures to improve us (including on club recruitment strategy and style if play). If not, carefully winding him down to move beyond him when his contract is up - hopefully with a good platform to push into regular European football.

What happened after the Fulham game, the game we won. You went on a full on Rampage, winding yourself up.

You don't stop with Iraola, sounds a bit obsessive, especially when the likeliness of it happening aren't very realistic.

The manager merry go round this summer, cant really see him still at Bournemouth. So a bit of a fantasy..

He can hold on to, rather than sell players. How many players has he been able to keep at Bournemouth ?

Talk more Tactical approach, surely that's the change you should be focusing on, not one person.

If I looked back, how many of these Managers you bring up have moved on and failed..

What have I got wrong about those points ?

"You went on a full on Rampage, winding yourself up"

That's right. That same day a small town was obliterated.

Or, not?

Cant tell if youre joking lol

Don't think it would really be accurate to say Iraola is a 'fantasy'

As you said he won't be at Bournemouth come summer, why would that make it less realistic?

Imo we will only make a change if a manager we want becomes available as a free agent. We won't be poaching another clubs coach and paying a release fee.

Yeah, so it is really a fantasy at moment.

The future might change things, but the bloke is out of contract in the summer, there is going to be a big merry go round of manager changes, his stock is high, he'll very likely be already tapped up by then.

If we are talking about a manager to take us forward now, with the above scenario. It sounds pretty fantasy to me..

It's a weird thread this, its always other PL manager names that get mentioned, never any overseas ones. Yet the majority of the best managers in the league in recent years have come from overseas and certainly in regards to winning things. Also I have a funny feeling we as fans are being smoothed into some sort of Baines/Coleman duo with Moyes as a mentor. Not my idea of a way forward tbh but some may approve, if either of those two want a crack id rather they went and got some proper experience somewhere.
Baines and Coleman were my favorite full backs since the 80s.

Our current full backs suggest neither of the above is having much impact as coach / finding talent.

So I hope you're not right, albeit you might be onto something.

Fair enough, entitled to your opinion. Think you're underselling us as a project though tbh.

If TFG know they want him, I think we would have a shot at getting him in myself. We've got some really good young players, new stadium and a willingness to spend. He would have an opportunity to build a long term project here that I dont think he would necessarily get at other clubs.

In terms of the managerial merry go round I think Utd probably end up keeping Carrick, RS I can't see going for Iraola, City will seemingly get Maresca if Pep goes. Spurs are the team I can see going in for him if they end up having interim rest of the season, but I don't think they're a massively appealing destination for managers at this point tbh.

Yeah 'Fantasy' might be overstating it. 'very unlikely' is possibly a better way to put it..
We would be an attractive club.
I would gladly welcome him if the position became available.

But the only way it could possibly play out is for us to say goodbye to Moyes.
Not sure I see that before his contract is up.

Who knows though, just have to see how it plays out..

We can revisit this conversation in the summer.
I will hold my hands up if we head into next season with him in charge..

Nah you're alright mate, be no need for I told you so's. If we're heading into next season with him in charge I would be far too happy to require any validation ;)

I do agree it obviously hinges on Moyes, and if we get Europe in any form he definitely stays and rightly so. If we miss out though I think there's probably two or three managers who we would make the change for if they were interested.

Easy to forget but there was a lot of fuss in the media when Bournemouth got Iraola in as the previous season Gary O'Neil had done a decent job. Was a lot of talk of 'be careful what you wish for' 'don't get greedy' safe to say that talk didn't last very long.

God now
Why? He’s got no managerial experience at League level,
Apart from few stints as caretaker in the championship. He’s also 51 now, he’s not a young coach.

There’s not a chance you’d want him, if he had no link to Everton.
no managerial experience

yeah lets get tony pulis then loads of experience him

how about because i liked what i saw he did with the england youth team and as interim head coach

Smartest post I’ve seen!
