Strikers under Moyes

With one of the strikers roaming out wide/outside the box. That's 4-2-2 only on paper.

Even when Yak was around and him an AJ played lots together - at least one of them was playing off the other/receiving the ball on the wing for no reason at all.

true...my favourite duo was Saha+Beckford...I wish we stuck to them two as per that epic Blackpool 5-3 game.

I think couple people missing my point, I think Moyes is average with strikers, but I think loads of other teams/managers are too. Gotta go back to work.

Hmmm.

Show your working out.

Yakubu 11m
Johnson 8.6
Beattie 6

?????

Yak 12.5
Beattie 6.5
AJ 8.5
Jela 5

= 32.5 (or 33m rounded up...maybe i got some fees slightly wrong...still over 30m tho').

+ 15m Fellaini

= 45-47m on 5 players we've had playing striker during the Moyes-era.

Again, the point is we shouldn't moan about lack of money when we do spend decent(ish) funds now and again. Granted, we're nowhere near the top 6 spenders, we're even bottom-half of the table in terms of net-spend...but in terms of outlay on strikers, we're not too poor.

I think Everton are average. I think other teams are too. Thus, this is ok.

Yay! Nil Satis etc

1. sometimes we play 4-4-2
2. only as hard as being a good midfielder, defender or goalie
3. we've spent 33m on 4 strikers...money is not the issue
4. agreed
5. good idea

The 11mil striker was good tho. I do think it's harder to be a good striker than anything else, the skills required are the most difficult.

I've said before, I think most strikers these days aren't very good. Whether that's a byproduct of changes in how the game's played I don't know, but there are loads of examples of expensive strikers being no better than people like Victor Anichebe. Unless you can just go out and buy the top scorers in the best leagues it seems to be a big gamble.

Fellaini isnt a striker.

Yakubu suffered a serious injury and turned into a wibble wobble.
Beattie we got back 4
Aj we got back 12
Jela is a current player

To add context, Liverpool in that time have spent 24m on Torres, 22m on Suarez, 35m on Carroll, 10m on Borini, 12m on Sturridge.

Fellaini's been played as a striker often enough.

Yak scored for fun for Blackburn long after this injury.

It's not about what money we get back, it's about how we're not so poor when we do go in for strikers. We're not rich, either...clearly.

Liverpool are obviously richer, thanks to constant Champs League over the last 15 years, superior merchandising income due to everyone abroard knowing who they are, more expensive stadium tickets and more Sky4 live matches.

That doesn't quite explain our lack of presence in that list of 56 players scoring 15 or more per season since Moyes arrived.

I also don't agree with your theory, as if we ignore the big names like Van Persie, Rooney, Aguero etc, we still have some very decent strikers with much better hit-rates than Everton strikers...players like Dempsey, Holt, Hernandez, Odemwingie, BEnt, Defoe, Agbonlahor and a few others are all players we could have realistically signed, and most play for teams that finish below us, yet these strikers score goals at a rate we sorely miss...

Not to mention the countless strikers from the other European leagues who could do a job too.
