Chatted to Peter Reid, Niall Quinn, Sam Allardyce and some other manager at my granddad’s wake. They weren’t there for the funeral obviously, they used to meet up for a session the day before a game apparently.

The only thing I remember is them all taking the mick out of one of the referees that they’d been allocated - think it was Phil Dowd - and the fact his car reg plate was something like “MR B1G”.

All flying related but met Arteta on a flight back from Barcelona (easyjet the frugal tinker).

I also met Bryan Robson and Fat Sam in Milan, both sitting in airport lounge getting the hassle that they are used to, but did have a chuckle when we boarded for our flight to Manchester as Robson had been booked business class which I was travelling and Fat Sam was economy but was told to stand by for upgrade ([Poor language removed] didn't get it).

The 1968 homecoming a reserve called Alan Whittle - near by to the rocket pub roundabout
word got about in a good crowd while waiting for the team bus a reserve was in the crowd ........ lost his autograph doh

Regularly saw Alan Harper on the train in the days when he was playing for Sheff Wed after leaving us the first time.

Darren Gibson off his face in Marbella....his mate helping him navigate his way out of a toilet cubical!

Walked into the uni bar when I was a student and Big Nev was in there with a 5-a-side net saving penalties from leathered students for charity. I told him I was a blue before I stepped up to take my first of three and he told me 'I don't care, no [Poor language removed] is scoring past me tonight.' He saved my first two and I blazed the third over in case anyone is dying to know.

Remember seeing Mick Lyons on a beach down in Devon when I was a kid.

Also walked past John Heitinga at JLA a few years ago.

Saw Leighton Baines in Costa Coffee in Liverpool One a few years ago. I seemed to be the only person who recognised him and he realised and quickly turned away. Got the impression he was shy more than anything so I didn't bother him.
Seen Baines a few times at Central station. Always had his hood up and earphones in, trying not to be seen
