Alan Whittle

A name that might not be remembered by everyone. But for Everton fans? He's a hero.

Alan Whittle was a lively, hard-working forward who always gave everything on the pitch. Not the flashiest player, but he had a knack for being in the right place at the right time.

His moment of glory came in the 1969–70 season. Everton were chasing the First Division title, and Whittle scored a stunning hat-trick against West Bromwich Albion in April 1970 – a result that kept the Toffees on course for the championship.

A few weeks later, Everton were crowned champions of England. And Alan Whittle had played his part.

He later won the FA Cup with Everton in 1966 (though he was an unused substitute in the final) and went on to play for Crystal Palace, where he helped them win promotion to the First Division in 1979.

After football, he famously worked as a milkman – proof that footballers back then were just ordinary blokes who did extraordinary things on a Saturday afternoon.

…..never knew he came off that fantastic conveyer belt, if I remember rightly it was largely a Rugby school called Cardinal Allen back then. He was an England U15 Schoolboy, a terrific pedigree back in those days.

That's right yeah. Dovecot / Huyton.

I am not now, nor have I ever been, "THE Alan Whittle"

"THE Alan Whittle" once missed a
90th minute open goal at Aldershot and received the full lexicon of my fulsome range of blasphemy for his trouble.
I got his autograph when the defeated 1968 teams home coming at the rocket or five ways - a rumour started that an Everton reserve was signing autographs nearby - I shot there to find a blond curly haired guy smoking a cigarette signing liads to anyone who came up to him little did I know he would score in nearly every game in the championship run in 2 year's later-
Oh & I list the autograph when my late mother gave all my EFC programmes away two big shoeboxes full - I went berserk ....
