Oh, posted this in the baines thread by mistake. Blatant foul. Reid checks him with his shoulder the goon.

Hmm.. Looking at it there and ignoring the feet (which I was focussing on), at least there's contact with the arm to illegally stop him going past.

It's still a dive basically but at least there is enough there to see why he went down for the free kick. I'd still rather he'd have just stayed up and continued the run though; a Baines in form wouldn't have went down.

there was no way he was getting the ball... it has nothing to do with form

This is the same as every other fan of every other club looking for a reason to excuse their own player while accusing the other players of doing it. This attitude is part of the problem with cheating in the game, fans too busy just looking at other clubs.

It's very clearly a smart and "professional" dive. He pushed it inside, but too far then starts to jump past Reid. He is already making the dive before he brushes Reid.

Looking at the replay again, he dove. At the very least, it was over-the-top embellishment, which for me is no different.

My dad and I were watching the game and the first thing both of us thought was, "Dive."
One thing that would put a quick end to diving, especially in the box, would be if a video review after the game could reverse a penalty decision and wipe out any resulting goal, like Suarez' latest flop vs. Villa. Result changed to a 2-1 Villa win. Of course, catching a dive to gain a fifth goal in a 5-0 rout wouldn't change the result, but seeing as most dives are committed with the score fairly close, it might cause a few serial offenders to rethink things.

It was a clear dive however this thread illustrates the difference in class between us and the RS. Here we put our hands up, admit it was a dive. Those lot try and cling onto anything to insinuate that the rat didn't dive. I'm pretty sure their next excuse will be a strong gust of wind.

If you drop the shoulder and beat someone and they feel the need to push their arm out and shoulder you to knock you off balance, you're fine to go down. Ref was spot on, freekick, irrespective of the dive afterwards which half the time you need to do to show the ref you want a free kick. Otherwise the ref's just coast through the game "play on lads"

Well Ok baines dived but Suarez does it every week and will do it in the derby without doubt do hey make a deal about him doing it I think not

it was stupid of Baines last night.....monday night football, live on Sky, and he dives....if he did that in a saturday game at 3pm, it would go unnoticed, but last night everyone saw it, including every referee......
might cost us a big decision now in the Derby.....
stupid, just stupid.....

He was going down before the "slight" movement of Reid. Reid wasn't too happy about it either, and I don't blame him.

We just aren't very good at this diving thing, we should put more practice in, old saying if you can't beat them join them, it works for everyone else.
