Dickheads. For some reason SSN decide to show the challenge by Reid on Baines for which we got a free kick. These 'was it or wasn't it' incidents are two a penny. Why show this one? They then go on to say not that there wasn't any sign of contact, but that there (definitely) wasn't any contact. Why so definite? Particularly in the light of the Suarez dive against Villa, when things got so ridiculous in defending him that Sky pundits seemed to be saying that the goalie shouldn't have even trying to stop Suarez from scoring! And to top it all, when you bother to look closely at last night's incident you can see clearly that actually there was definitely contact. The contact is not with Baines's foot (which is what Sky were obviously focusing on). The contact is full on and it is by Reid's shoulder.

It was a dive, yeah it was snidey of SSN to show it as if it the game hinged on that decision so it somehow compared to Suarez' but it doesn't change the fact he went down easily.

Look again lad. Reid shoulders him into his chest/shoulder. THERE WAS CLEAR CONTACT. And even if there wasn't, since Sky have apparently after the Suarez incident rewritten the rules on what constitutes a foul, the speed at which Reid runs towards Baines must by itself now apparently warrant a free kick anyway!!!

Yes there was contact but he still dived. Accept it and hang your head in shame like the rest of us.

Still snide of SSN to be highlighting it, like. Murphy's law

Just because there's contact doesn't mean that contact would be enough to send someone to the floor. It's a contact sport after all (just about).

Rules from FIFA here clearly state that it must be careless, reckless or using excessive force. Contact on its own is no reason to award a foul.

A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following seven offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
  • kicks or attempts to kick an opponent
  • trips or attempts to trip an opponent
  • jumps at an opponent
  • charges an opponent
  • strikes or attempts to strike an opponent
  • pushes an opponent
  • tackles an opponent
A direct free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following three offences:
  • holds an opponent
  • spits at an opponent
  • handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area)

Shows how inconsistent the refs are when he got a free kick for that yesterday yet earlier in the season he got taken out in the box during an away game (can't remember which- maybe cardiff?) and we didnt get a penalty.

yes it was Cardiff away - Baines had both legs kicked from under him in the pen area = no pen!

Yeah was Cardiff but we do t get pens mate even for the one against stoke osman had to be fouled twice to get it.

We've been doing a lot more of it this season and its a bit embarassing at times, just glad we are not like the RS and depend on it constantly whilst failing to see it as a bad thing.

I am hoping Baines doesn't start getting a bad rep, used to take a two footed head high challenge to bring him down, this season a mild breeze seems sufficient and Johnson will testify that once your marked as a diver, you get nothing when you play for us.
