It would have been massively fun to see him play for Everton. January - March was some of the most fun I've had watching football.

But Everton will go on - through the ups and downs - and be just fine. They have new fans for life (me and Landon, of course!).

[Can't say I'll have as much fun watching him in MLS tho. In fact, I know I won't. And I'm a Galaxy fan!]

Says it all.

Its dissapointing but it was always 50/50.

The Galaxy might have been asking for silly amounts of money for what would only be a ten game loan , Lets be honest is say an Australian side wanted Cahill on loan from June to August we wouldnt be pushing it to happen would we.

one has him bang in the middle of our feckin season.

That's not true. Most MLS fans wanted him to stay. I would have liked to see Landon with Everton at some point but to go on loan and come back to a full season would be detrimental to his health.

No they didn't. You can pretend they did though. The only people that wanted LD back in the MLS are LAG fans and those who profit from him being in the MLS. Its pointless..but hell..hardly anyone watches MLS anyway.

I hate comments like the last part. I am for all football succeeding and the MLS is part of that. I definitely want Landon over in Everton as it would have helped Everton, it would have been good for the promotion of the MLS to see some of our players succeeding who came up mostly through the MLS.

I do agree with you that most wise people would want more and more American players from the MLS to head overseas and actually succeed. It opens up spots in the MLS for more players to succeed and it shows to the rest of the world that the MLS continues to grow.

Is the MLS perfect? Hell no, it has a long way to go in it's development as a league but does it continue to slowly improve... yes.

Just when I was about to post about how weird it was that he hadn't tweeted (twittered?) anything:
I appreciate all the messages. It wasn't easy because you all were so great to me in January. I hope they'll want me back in the future.
And,
Also, I'll be doing an interview with evertonfc.com tomorrow.
Well, he'll be another year older/slower, and we'll have moved on. Why do I get the feeling that this was his best opportunity? And what's the deal with this interview? What hasn't been said that warrants a sitdown? I mean... so he isn't coming for a loan--big deal. We care, of course, but it's not, like, this huge deal. Does anyone else think it's a little strange?

Wow. Just wow.

He did say what I thought all along though. If he ever does come back, it'll be to Everton and no one else.

I'm wondering if there is still the possibility, no matter how small, that we get him on a permanent deal.

But there's nothing left for him in MLS. Nothing.

Sad. It's a third-tier sport in the US, the WC didn't change very much in that regard, and LD is already back to being a very, very small star in a huge pond in terms of sports celebs. If he had wanted to move into the big leagues this was his chance, even if it was just a loan. Keeps him relevant, no chance of forgetting him, gotta play if you want to win, blah blah. Does anyone really think that Moyes is going to keep going back to him every transfer window? Would he really be worth it as time goes on? At some point this team has to move on. I am probably alone in this, but I think his ship has officially sailed.

Looking forward to seeing what he has to say in this interview. Swan song? "Don't forget about me"? "I'm with them, but I really want to be elsewhere *wink*"?

Wow. One thing I have to say. For all those that called him a punk (and he was in his earlier years, he himself has said so), this situation really shows how much the guy has matured. I am impressed with how he has handled this. You can tell he really loves Everton and the fans, and his comments don't seem manufactured. And he knows the backlash he is going to get for this - he's not stupid. To withstand that, even more class. I think it just really doesn't matter to him that he's not the top tier league king for Americans.

To LDfan's point, I think he might have one last chance to be purchased in the summer, but after that, it's USMNT duty and MLS for life. He'll be on the wrong end of 29 unless he has a blinder of a year. If he wants a transfer in the summer that's what he'll have to focus on: a great three months for LA and a great Gold Cup.

What kills me? "I hope they'll want me back in the future." If we had the money to make this permanent, it would have been done. Damn, damn budget. He is on another team, and he's wistfully saying that he would play for a different one. Says a lot.

His interview tomorrow I think will be much the same commentary, but again, he didn't have to do it. But he is. For Everton.

I'm just impressed and it makes me like him ever that much more.

*Class.*

I think we should close the thread after the interview tomorrow - seems fitting.

EDIT: Oh, and I think the reason for the interview is that the team realizes how popular he was. I mean, he was listed as a candidate for the team of the decade after a ten week loan! Content is content.

Had my Donovan away kit in the cart (IMO only way to make the pink kit ace), and was ready to celebrate. Such is life. Lando made his decision and from this point move on. Mick said it best, "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you might find, you get what you need. I have freely admitted that I had never watched Everton before Landon came over on loan. As a result, I now "Know my History" and when I hear ZCars, and see Blues shirts walking out on the pitch, I get goose bumps. So Landon is not coming. Is it a drag? Yes. Although I have to say that I find the situation is not quite so dire when I put positive and negative apart and compare. Before the loan I had no idea who the best little spaniard was, no clue who "Boss" Baines was, or Cahill, Rodwell, or Feli, or Jags, no idea that if we feed the Yak he will score(Is that still true? jk). Also I had no idea who LCAB, TXBill, Chico, Muggins, Matt Damon(well I knew him from elsewhere), Dutch Toffee, and all the other class acts who post here were. As for jh14, disbelieve the oracle at your own peril. LCAB gives us the best up to date info as possible, and as with all things in life, the situation is fluid and ever changing. So what may look promising one day, could be crap the next. So in closing, we lost a loan, but I gained so much freaking more. Lando brought me to be an Everton fan, and that doesn't change, even if he never comes back. I came for Landon, but stayed for Everton. All that matters is that at the end of the day we are better, win or lose, because we are Everton, and they are not. We are quality without an inflated price tag, we are of a fighting spirit that everyone else wishes they had. So I didn't get what I wanted(Lando), but I got what I needed(EVERTON). COYB!
