Danny Murphy saying on the radio earlier that we should be grateful for what Rooney came in and did for us last season and that he would still make our starting line-up.
Still cant see how people think Rooney never had a massive impact last season, he dropped of of course 2nd half of the seasons but at times he was one of the only ones who actualy played like it ment something to him.

Schniderlin and siggurdson take note. You can learn something from that man.

He came in and we suffered one of our worst seasons as a footballing side ever. We looked absolutely incompetent and bound for relegation when he played striker. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

Something had to give. Bringing in actual footballers and ridding ourselves of the past-its has changed the outlook of he club. Here’s hoping we don’t bring in any more 45 year old Barry’s (who tbf, had a good first season under Martinez) and binge drinking Rooneys

I've not read the entire. Why should we have kept Rooney? He stank the place out last season. He was awful. Earned 150k and gave us nothing. He goes to mls retirement home and scores a few and now we should have kept him. Let's remember this is a league where Bradley Wright-phillips is considered a legend. Where would Rooney operate in this team? In place of Sigurdsson? No thanks. Up front? He can't run anymore he hasn't got the legs. He will always be remembered a red who came back when they didn't want him. A bit like when a bird leaves you and then after 10 years she loses her looks and her body isn't what it was and gets dumped so she comes running back to you as she thinks she is still good enough for you. I didn't want him to come back and I was gutted to be proved right. If it wasn't for his penalties last season his goal really would have been abysmal.
Some sense.

Agreed.

1) Despite scoring goals early on, Rooney struggles with the pace of the Premier League, and clearly won't be getting any quicker or better in his mid 30s.
2) General consensus that Rooney would do well in a league like the MLS where the quality is not a good and the pace is less intense.
3) Rooney moves to the MLS and does well, as expected, due to the slower pace and relative lack of quality.
4) Fans and pundits declare that he should never have been released because he has been doing well in the MLS.

For Rooney, see loads of other 'past-it' high profile players.

When we used to send out lineups with Etoo Kone and Barry in them and wonder why we couldn’t get near the opposition.

I don't think we should have kept him. He was on a massive wage and he hadn't such a desired impact on our team. Sigurdsson flourished once he made the AMC slot his own if anything.

I think the way he got caught out by that horrible honeytrap spoke volumes about where his head was at. We lost the Rooney that was young and hungry, all we got back was the last of the players infected by the ‘golden generation’ and their bulls**t egos.
I spent 10 years hoping one day he would come back but if he’d really been committed to helping the club he’d have come back before he was totally washed up. Looking back I think I’d have preferred it if he had stayed away.
The absolute truth, Wayne never did anyone any favours by coming back here especially himself, mind you he was well paid for that brief comeback

..it’s all hypothetical now, but in my opinion he’d be a vast improvement on Tosun.

Saying that, the new regime might have seen him as a catalyst of the old regime and felt the need to move him on. I’m a fan of the fella but I have no issue with him not being here.

Was never good enough for us. Held us back both times he was with us. Finished 4th the year after we sold him. And team looks much better again this time round.

Good riddance to bad rubbish
gone fishing
