..it’s all hypothetical now, but in my opinion he’d be a vast improvement on Tosun.

Saying that, the new regime might have seen him as a catalyst of the old regime and felt the need to move him on. I’m a fan of the fella but I have no issue with him not being here.
His performances at centre forward were so bad we had to play him in midfield to accommodate his lack of speed and agility. I can't stress how poor he was as a 9. It got Koeman the sack.

Did an attacker who didn't score a goal from mid December until the end of the season deserve to be the highest paid employee in the history of the club?

I'd suggest the answer is an emphatic no and Moshiri/Silva/Brands or a combo of them all made the correct financial, and footballing decision.

..as I say, it’s hypothetical and we’d never know how effective he’d be with the likes of Richarlison and Bernard around him. Tosun is hardly a speed merchant and I see Rooney complimenting the others more and effectively joining in. Good players play on the same wavelength.

We’ve moved on and I have no issue with that.

He struggled with Ibrahimovic, Pogba, Martial, Mata etc complimenting him and this was 2 years ago.

..I think he struggled more with getting game time ahead of that quality of player, I imagine all of them will have the utmost respect for Rooney’s ability after playing alongside him.

He will always have his ability, we saw that in certain areas last season, however a lot of his game was based on being dynamic, he lost a lot of his game about 3 years ago. These days you are just hoping for a bit of magic from him once every few weeks which is not enough for a top flight team with any aspirations of pushing on.

...I understand that and I have no problem with him moving on, we need a more ‘dynamic’ striker. I was just commenting that in my view he’d be better than Tosun. The reality is we need to improve on what we have.

He was awful when he played, United fans wanted shut of him for 2 years. I would rather have Tosun every single day of the week than Rooney right now.

We might not be able to afford some of those guys if we didn’t get his salary off the he books.

Wouldn't get in ahead of Sigurdsson. Wouldn't get in ahead of Richarlison leading the line. So no. He'd just be blocking the place and progress of a younger squad member. Right time to get rid. Plus his passing was chronic last year, mostly led to the opposition being able to counter us.

He's scoring free kicks in USA, did he ever score them for us? Nope. Different league. Different level.

I can see the logic in having him, however, with his wages as they are reported to be, I doubt we would had the kind or number of players we have now with him still at the club, so no!
