I think he will leave it to late to redeem himself. Like Anikin. But it will turn out that Russ was the chosen one anyway.

Apart from my previously stated opinion that he might disturb the progress of Martinez' plan by turning everything into The Rooney Show....there is another major hurdle on top of all those already mentioned by various posters. Do we really want to do business with Moyes/Man Utd. unless we can see them off like we did over Fellaini, and do Man Utd want to do business with us, unless its with derisory bids for our best young players?

The lovely thing is, they won't have any say in the matter.

Cheslea boss José Mourinho shared a special moment with a journalist at his press conference last night, but that wasn’t the only thing he was up to, as he admitted defeat on his ongoing pursuit to sign Wayne Rooney. The Stamford Bridge gaffer suggested that United would still part with their prize asset this summer, but that he would be headed off to a fancy foreign club rather than a domestic rival. He apparently also issued a written apology to Moyes for his comments that he had “inside information” that a few people at Old Trafford were not happy with the Scot’s start to the league campaign, but it all sounds like mind games to us.

Jose Mourinho says Manchester United are ready to sell Wayne Rooney at the end of the season – but he has dismissed Chelsea’s chances of signing the striker.
Mourinho made Rooney his top transfer target over the summer, but despite lodging three separate bids for his services, United refused to sell.
The Blues boss now says that he expects David Moyes will finally offload the England international at the end of the season, but Chelsea will not be in the running for his signature.

‘Manchester United made it clear in the summer that they don’t swap or sell players to their direct rivals,’ Mourinho said.
‘They were clear in the way they approached the Rooney situation. For them it’s pretty clear – they don’t swap and they don’t sell.
‘I think this summer United will try and sell Rooney to a non-direct rival, but they were very clear about not selling to Chelsea.’
The comments suggest that Rooney, who has put contract talks with United on ice, will move abroad – where French clubs PSG and Monaco are known admirers.

Well i'm just hoping Rooney knows that this is his last chance to come here and we wont want him at the age of 31/32, he might be thinking, one more pay day then Everton

Honestly, I don't want the sod and none of you lot should either. He chose the Mancs over us, we shouldn't be patiently waiting, hoping and begging for him to come back. I don't care if he still supports us and I don't care if he's brought his kids up to support us. He made his priorities very clear.

He was 18 FFS. And anyway, we needed to sell Rooney to stay afloat.

Anyway, just read this and had a bit of a chuckle. Mourinho is causing carnage!

Jose Mourinho's Wayne Rooney claim wrong - David Moyes

David Moyes says Jose Mourinho is wrong to suggest that Manchester United will try to sell Wayne Rooney this summer.
Chelsea boss Mourinho's summer move for the England striker - his sole transfer target - was rejected and he has now ruled out ever signing him from United.

"United made it clear they don't swap or sell players to direct rivals," said the Portuguese. "Maybe this summer they will try sell to a non-direct rival."

But United manager Moyes said: "I completely disagree."

The Scot added: "The club do the right things, there is no doubt about that. We'll make sure we do the things we need to do."

When asked if he was disappointed by Mourinho's comments, Moyes replied: "I wouldn't do it but everybody has their own style.

"I wouldn't talk about other managers or players at other clubs."

Chelsea host United in the Premier League on Sunday but 28-year-old Rooney, whose contract expires in 2015, will miss the game as he continues to recover from a groin injury.

The forward, who joined United from Everton in August 2004, is fourth-highest goalscorer in the club's history.
Meanwhile, Moyes, who succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson last summer, has received an apology from Chelsea over comments made by Mourinho claiming that all was not well at United.

The Chelsea manager told London's Evening Standard: "My feeling, which is based on years of communicating with Sir Alex and some inside information, is Man United are not happy."

Moyes said: "I've seen it and had an apology from him and his department."
