Rooney will be back when he is 32. playing in a midfield creative role with Barkley doing the running for him.
He will have been attracted here by his life-long support for the club and, of course, our four consecutive seasons in the Champions League as well as our two consecutive FA Cup trophies.
By the time he is 34, the commercial revenue from his signing will have financed a new ground built in the northern docks area.

There is just a slight problem with that. Whatever deal he signs now will be his last, he's 29 next year so any deal would be around 5 years taking him to 34. If he really wants to come back it will be his next move as its now or never.

He wil never return to Everton in the current climate because it is not financially worthwhile for him to. Take nolstalgia out the of the question, would you rather earn an incredible amount of money knowing full well your career could be over in 10 years or 10 days depending on one bad tackle, or take a paycut just to play for your boyhood club again? The fact is, he could be looking at a massive cut in losses by joining us, on the basis we paid him 100 grand a week to sign him, it would cost him about 39 million on the basis of a 5 year contract.

How many of you would take a 39 million loss in a limited career simply to play for your boyhood club? Not even paul Scholes did.

It's hard to answer what would you do with questions like that.

I earn 18k a year and am perfectly happy with that figure. Taking a drop from 15 million pounds a year to 5 million pounds a year is just figures I can't really comprehend.

I know for instance that I'd rather earn 18k where I currently live then earn 30k somewhere else because 30k isn't going to be enough that I can take my boyfriend with me, still go to goodison and visit my family, etc. But once you're talking about 15 million then you can commute from the ****ing moon so that doesn't apply at all.

It's so different from my actual life that I honestly don't know what I'd do.

Its quite easy, you dip into his image rights and take a cut of that. Real's deal with Ronaldos image right has virtually paid the transfer fee.

However, i cannot see this happening, ever. Maybe when hes 33 but not now

Rooney's decision will be made by Paul Stretford - Mr 15% - same as it always is.

The talk of him taking a massive pay drop 'for love' is pure fantasy

This. Rooney really has to consider his next move/contract very carefully if he has any desire to play for Everton again. By renewing with utd, moving to a Chelsea/Madrid etc he is basically ruling himself out of playing for Everton again! He will not be good enough or in a posistion to make any impact coming as a 33 yr old. By then the fans wouldn't even accept him tbh. It's now or never for him to make a name at Everton.

He once said the only team he would of left Everton for was utd due to the success he could have and the only other other team he would play for would be Everton. Who knows if that's true but...I would love to see the reaction of media and pundits alike if he returned shortly.

This is such a good point. We really don't know what it's like being Wayne Rooney! What is the difference between 20 million and 40 million over five years? To us normal folk, it's incomprehensible!

Take a dip into his images rights? What agent would let a club do that? The ronaldo and Bale deals are very astute because Real don't take their personal image rights, they profit from just having them at the club. The players themselves retian thier image rights and profit from that themselves, Win win it seems.

Plus you factor in We are Everton and in the past 10 years since Rooney left, have signed every bad business deal and sold every asset away without a seconds thought. We are sponsored by an east aisian brand, Have americas number 1 plus best player singing our praises, we have had Austrailias most famous player nd we have done nothing about any of it. Rooney's image rights will take a hit by coming here, as we are not globally interesting compared to united/real and the like. Why would Nike or whoever pay Rooney a fortune to play for everton when PSG/ Chelsea and others can market the player on a global scale?

Money rules the beautiful game now, the only sentiments you get are for the poor man.

Agree completely. Given his current contract situation and the fact that he supposedly keeps saying he wants to play for Everton again, we will see in the next year or so if he really does want it as he's in a very good position to make it happen and its basically his only chance.

Rooney doesn't need to be marketed on a global scale, he is one of the most recognisable footballers on the planet and they pay him because of his talent and the fact that he makes ££££ for them. The fairy tale of him coming 'home' and leaving one of the biggest clubs in the world for his boyhood club at the top of his game would cause a unbelievable amount of interest in the football world and would make every single back page for days - what more exposure could his sponsors need.

I think people are underestimating just how much mileage the papers could get out of a 'fairy tale return'. Neutrals would love it, especially as it means Utd lose their best player and all fans of everyone but Utd, want them to fail!

I would say the sponsors need to be advertised in the champions league and alongside other profitable players. All they will care about is getting the brand out there, and you dont do that finsihing best of the rest in the premiership. Point is You don't associate Rooney with the boots he wears or the sponsors he fronts because that is all behind the scenes. As much as Rooney is recognisable, the people with the money want rooney to be in places were you can see him, they don't give a damn about a fairytale return. Unless Rooney fired us all the way to the league after returning then he would be forgotton about overseas because there would be no reminder of him in the same sense of united being marketed over there.

It is all a mute point anyway because we sold united our best player (argubley) in the summer and replaced him with a player half his value and a 32 year old loanee. If the money we are missing doesn't resurface in the future then there goes any small dream of Rooney ever being affordable to us.

Jagielka says he knows how much the club still means to him. “He still tries to support Everton as much as you can as someone still playing the game at a high level, but definitely, yeah he’s still an Everton man,” he said.
“He gets a lot of stick from our fans, but you put yourself in his situation, he was such a young lad with a massive, massive decision to make.
“It was bound to be a little bit difficult when he left – it’s the way it goes when someone leaves the club. If they don’t **** you off and hate you then you’ve not done very well for the club. It’s par for the course.
"I tell Wayne if he looks at it that way then the reason why the fans went so ballistic is they loved him and wanted him to be part of Everton folklore. It wasn’t to be.
"Wayne has matured these last few years and he still has an affection for Everton, but he won’t be doing us any favours.
“I don’t know if he will end up back here. We’d obviously welcome him back, but he’s done so much in his career and he’s not going to come back and not perform at the heights he’s done in his career.
"If he finished his career here he’d want to come back and make a difference.”

From this interview (Feb 13) it sounds like Wayne has at least discussed the possibility of a return with our players whilst on international duty. Love the idea of our players persuading a United player to join us after years of Gary Neville/Rio et al taping up every other teams players for Fergie.
