Not all down to Moyes, but if you look at Martinez entire PL record, that season sticks out like a sore thumb. It's naive to think he happened to get it right in just that one season.

It was an absolute dream for him to get the back 5 he was afforded.

Howard

Coleman Jagielka Distin Baines

That was a fully trained fully functioning defence that averaged a clean sheet ever other game in 13/14.

He ruined this club. Koeman just didn't resuscitate it.

So surely you want Moyes back then Ian?

Agree that the defence he inherited was boss, but IMO that first season Martinez had us playing some of the best footy I had seen in a long time, he gave fans and everyone else involved with the club a real boost, he also just got the club, what it meant to be a blue. Unfortunately his own stubbornness (like Koeman) was his downfall.

Easy. Martinez.

For the first season (which was better than RonKon’s first).

For buying Lukaku

For believing in Ross

For a decent effort in Europe (apart from the team in Kyiv though I am not sure who else he had to choose from)

For the mostly decent efforts in PL Derbies and wins over United and Arsenal in particular (at Old Trafford as well)

For the decent cup runs in 15-16 to two semis (done by the ref and lino at The Etihad)

Except he did lose it in the end somewhat but - over the 3 season’s - it was a bit of a rollercoaster but - compared to Konman it was pretty good.

Plus at least he looked like he was having a bit of fun and - mostly - he got us.

But if Moyes created a team that was so good it just needed a loan signing of Lukaku and Deulofeu, GazBaz on loan and McCarthy for 13m, surely he can come in and replicate what he did previously and now has money to carry the job through?

In summary, if Martinez got 72 points from Moyes' work, surely you want him back?

Because if you don't, i'd be interested to know why.

Doesn't seem the most water tight of views Ian.

In that first season, almost everything came together until we ran out of steam near the end.

Now that we are able to fund actual, real life signings, that season should be the minimum we should be aiming for (once this current mess is sorted out).

No mate. Moyes has lost it. The United situation ruined him. Moyes did great for us, found us in 17th left us 6th. Martinez found us in that very same 6th place and left us in 13th. That's the top and bottom of it.
We need to be looking forward.

He came in and and fixed the problem we'd had for 15 years: what do everton do against teams who park the bus?
Sure, the wheels came off but, with hindsight, we should have given him the 200m and not rocket ronnie.

Dunno who, probably Davek, said "at least we knew we'd score/create" (which was not always, especially in bigger games), but it was somewhat right. Even when we were gash, there was something good about the team, some attempt.

These last few months were just a disaster.

RM tried to encourage and let players express themselves on the pitch. He encouraged youth and has made our Academy one to be proud of
RK is plainly a bully and a manager players feared.

Furthermore. Martinez deserves massive credit for managing to prise Lukaku away from both a top 3 club and a London club as well (yes, after a season at West Brom) - when did we last do that!? Good players rarely leave London (these days for Manchester it is true)

Please don’t say Rooney at nearly 32 from Man U!!!

What did he have?
How is it proven that he's lost whatever that is?
We aren't Utd. End of story. LvG has won everything at club level and couldn't crack it there, having spent 100s of millions.
Sociedad (spl?). Language barrier.
Sunderland? A poisoned chalice. No money to spend.

You make plenty of excuses for Moyes as to why he hasn't been able to replicate what he did with us.
He knows us though. Will get time. Will sort that defence out. Could get us back to 6th?

Isn't he the perfect choice for you Ian?

Yes. Failure is ok if you at least try - well it is when you play a good side at any rate. I think we can accept losing (away) to Chelsea, City, United, maybe Spurs - as long as we are up for the fight - if we lose because they are better than us then so be it.
