Is the best worst a title worth deciding? They both failed.
Just imagine, we could have bought three Wigan's with that.He came in and and fixed the problem we'd had for 15 years: what do everton do against teams who park the bus?
Sure, the wheels came off but, with hindsight, we should have given him the 200m and not rocket ronnie.
Respecting the great job Moyes did does not mean I want Moyes back. Rodgers had a better season than anything Klopp or Martinez came up with, playing superior football to anything Klopp and Martinez offered, do you reckon Liverpool fans want him back? What did he have?
How is it proven that he's lost whatever that is?
We aren't Utd. End of story. LvG has won everything at club level and couldn't crack it there, having spent 100s of millions.
Sociedad (spl?). Language barrier.
Sunderland? A poisoned chalice. No money to spend.
You make plenty of excuses for Moyes as to why he hasn't been able to replicate what he did with us.
He knows us though. Will get time. Will sort that defence out. Could get us back to 6th?
Isn't he the perfect choice for you Ian?
I said he has made our Academy into what it is, for all his flaws he wanted youth to start progressing through the ranks. He didn't make our academy.
Great points. There were several factors that came in to play in that first season under Martinez. Ferguson had just left Man Utd. We took six points from them that season – something that had never happened in the premier league era. Add that to the fact that Pellegrini was in his first season in the premier league, Tim Sherwood was at Tottenham, and Mourinho was just back at Chelsea. We can also add into the mix that Liverpool, with Suarez were taking points from those teams. All of those things probably flattered our points total and position for the season.
Look at whose managing the so called “big six” now – Klopp, Pochettino, Wenger, Guardiola, Mourinho, and Conte. The managers are much better at those clubs, than they were in that first season under Martinez – Rodgers, Sherwood, Wenger, Pellegini, Moyes, Mourinho. Those clubs are much harder to beat now.
Martinez was lucky enough to inherit a disciplined back four. He got a bit lucky with Lukaku, as he was actually going for someone else. He was also fortunate in the fact that Barkley was just about ready for the big time.
We also need to remember, that even during that first “glorious” season, we got murdered 4-0 at Anfield. He also didn’t really sign anyone decent after that first transfer window.
Koeman did inherit dross, but didn’t help himself, but I am thinking he would have managed to finish higher than 11th, with Lukaku in his side.
Basically, this!Yes. Failure is ok if you at least try - well it is when you play a good side at any rate. I think we can accept losing (away) to Chelsea, City, United, maybe Spurs - as long as we are up for the fight - if we lose because they are better than us then so be it.
Martinez inherited a much better setup than Koeman...
It was ok but we won nothing and finished 5th. Nice but nothing to rave about. Seems to me mate that you and others loved the season so much because of what you thought it represented (a return to the good old days) rather then what it was, an ok season that meant nothing in the grand scheme of things. It was the most enjoyable season supporting Everton since Joe Royle.
So yeah, it was massively different.
Soon destroyed it spending and destroying moral!Martinez inherited a much better setup than Koeman...
You have completely avoided answering my questions Ian.Respecting the great job Moyes did does not mean I want Moyes back. Rodgers had a better season than anything Klopp or Martinez came up with, playing superior football to anything Klopp and Martinez offered, do you reckon Liverpool fans want him back?
Can you name a better one during the Premier League outside of Joe Royle's reign? It was ok but we won nothing and finished 5th. Nice but nothing to rave about. Seems to me mate that you and others loved the season so much because of what you thought it represented (a return to the good old days) rather then what it was, an ok season that meant nothing in the grand scheme of things.
