Yes, and what is that other than a gilded case of surviving in the PL...it's not success is it?! It's nothing. That's why we all laughed at stuff like the 7th place trophy etc.
72 points, that was our highest ever prem points total and was managed by Martinez.
The other side of that coin is are we heading for our lowest ever PL points total in RM's second season.
We have to beat Liverpool for Martinez to keep his job. Yearh we haven't won in 5 years at home against them. But we simply have to win our home games to stay up
There's 48 points still up for grabs this season and our lowest premiership points tally is 39 we'd only need 17 points to equal that awful total, we'll easily surpass it though.
Dougie mate, do you want to look at the games left and give us your estimate of where those 17 points are going to come from, could be an inmteresting exercise for us all to review after your post.
Do you really think it's a simple as saying "we get beat here, win against them..", that's a very naive way to look at football, if that was the case clubs like Bradford wouldn't have beat Chelsea at the weekend.
Dougie, it was you brought up the 17 points, what if I said we would be lucky to get 10. You would then be calling me out to say how did I work that out. If I may point out you actually said we would easily surpass the 17 points figure!

You seem to think that we'll end up with our lowest points total in the premiership I merely informed you that there's 48 points still up for grabs and we need 18 more to beat that total, for a squad of our quality that's easily achievable.
Too true, but for me we also have to get a bit out of the away games we have left to play.
That's a poor comparison mate, the FA Cup game is a one off occasion, form goes out the window for the smaller clubs, they are running on desire. Granted the result was freak.
But we have been playing poor, imo all season bar 2 or 3 games, but the last month and a half it has been pitiful, a real lack of everything and pure desperation, and that's the worry. 19 league games of staggering through, poor football which is very predictable and easy to set up against, slow and short of ideas in the final third.
It's not going to be easy to pick up points if we continue as is, and that's been shown by our awful points total in the first 22 games. The table doesn't lie. Our only saving grace, and I say this with hope, is that we have a squad which is capable of putting a 5 game winning run together and pull us well clear.
Do I see this happening?? On what I've witnessed so far, no. Will we go down?? I don't think so, but with the squad we have it should never ever have even been a topic for discussion between fans.
I used Bradford because it's the latest football surprise, I could have easily pointed to Stoke beating City. It's football you can't predicte it with any definitive outcome.
Everyone agrees we've been a shadow of the team last season, but it's the same players and the same manager so we know we're capable of much better. We hit rock bottom against Newcastle and Hull and since then we've looked more compact and aggressive and results have improved. The next stage is winning games and gaining much needed confidence, I hope that will start at the weekend and give us a platform to build from.
This squad of players is to good to continue to play as badly as the first half of the season, hopefully this break has been beneficial in sharpening the players minds and we kick on.
