Roberto Martinez discussion

It has to be said, I re watched the game and while we weren't that good, we weren't that bad, in fact we were distinctly ordinary. But we are so far off form it's ridiculous and not being helped by Roberto's attempts to shoehorn everybody in.
we won't get relegated and we 'could' win the Europa League and FA cup.

If we're still having this conversation this time next year... well that's a different story.

2nd season syndrome, that's all it is.

I'm winding the meltdown / fume meter right down

Change the formation, or change the players to suit the formation. Just do one or the other, give the opposition something to think about.

All good teams are built from the base of a) having a solid defence and b) being able to defend as a team. This side has neither of these qualities and that is surely because the manager does not place enough importance on them and/or does not spend time in training working on them.

The attempts at defending balls into the area today were woeful. The 2nd goal in particular when Baines failed to stop the cross coming in and then Jagielka/Coleman being outjumped for the header tells us all we need to know about the emphasis Mr Martinez places on defending. The amount of space the Southampton players had in our area today was a disgrace and they could have scored 5 or 6.

Until this is sorted the problems will continue and worsen. But unfortunately leopards don't often change their spots so I ain't holding my breath.

Does anyone else think he is meek? He isn't fearful and strikes me as far too nice for the premier league. A lovely man he is but he comes across like this job is too much for him.

It doesn't mean he is fit enough for 90 mins though or that he is up to match speed. We've rushed several players back from injury and about the only one that has done well is Mirallas and tbh he has extensive experience of coming back from hamstring injuries. This is the first serious injury of Stones career and, if Barry's performances after his ankle ligament injury is anything to go by, a tough one to recover quickly from.

Don't understand why he wasn't give 15mins or so at the end mind when the game was lost anyway.
A recurrence of his injury is just as likely to happen in a 15 cameo as it is playing 90mins

If he's fit play him,if he isn't he shouldn't be in the squad

Okay RM had a good first season but did mess up a bit in our attempt at 4th place. Now this season, only 4 wins! Is RM showing that all is well with appearing before the cameras and smiling but in reality have the results this year shown his ideas of tactics, playing etc are really quite not up to it. Think of Wigan.

Martinez is obviously making a few mistakes at the minute.

But I'm just going to throw this out there for discussion.

Do we over rate our players? Maybe they're not as good as we think they are/should be?

We've seen them be good. But all players have off times. And some don't get good again.

Not sure I think that but worth a discussion.
