Roberto Martinez discussion

All good teams are built from the base of a) having a solid defence and b) being able to defend as a team. This side has neither of these qualities and that is surely because the manager does not place enough importance on them and/or does not spend time in training working on them.

The attempts at defending balls into the area today were woeful. The 2nd goal in particular when Baines failed to stop the cross coming in and then Jagielka/Coleman being outjumped for the header tells us all we need to know about the emphasis Mr Martinez places on defending. The amount of space the Southampton players had in our area today was a disgrace and they could have scored 5 or 6.

Until this is sorted the problems will continue and worsen. But unfortunately leopards don't often change their spots so I ain't holding my breath.

We are in trouble - us fans have no confidence in each game so the players won't have.
Martinez does need to grow a pair.
Wouldn't mind seeing kone and eto'o in a 2 man partnership against Stoke.
But we all know who starts each game.
Barry, lukaku, regardless of what form

Only player I've not been arsed about moving to the RS from us.

I celebrated. It was a very good day for me. If you know the story.

If he thinks that we were equal to Southampton today then I'm worried. We have struggled in our last 2 home league games against Hull & QPR FFS so today was always going to be a tough one and so are our next 3 games. He also said that our attack was incredible on Monday night, I didn't see that, I just saw a team struggling to put moves together and for 20 minutes in the 2nd half we were second best.
Wolfsberg away, playing on the break was the best way to play and we get to play to Lukaku's strengths & let him run with the ball. It was exciting to watch instead of the back 4 just passing it around and letting teams just wait for us to make mistakes. We are easy to play against and we don't have a plan B.

I know what you mean mate but like I said Stones has been on the bench the last two games,if he's fit for the bench he's fit far as I'm concerned,if he isn't he shouldn't be in the squad
It doesn't mean he is fit enough for 90 mins though or that he is up to match speed. We've rushed several players back from injury and about the only one that has done well is Mirallas and tbh he has extensive experience of coming back from hamstring injuries. This is the first serious injury of Stones career and, if Barry's performances after his ankle ligament injury is anything to go by, a tough one to recover quickly from.

Don't understand why he wasn't give 15mins or so at the end mind when the game was lost anyway.
