Roberto Martinez discussion

Ha ha it's not me slating the current manager after putting us 1 game from Wembley. So clearly and to be consistent it would be wrong for you to support if we do get there...but of course you will be there - just easy on here to make negative comments. I guess if we won it you would still find a way of finding a how lucky we were etc.

Ive never once said I wanted him sacked and meant it, my stance has been clear for a while now, not my fault you got the wrong end of the stick.

He talks utter tripe everytime he opens his mouth, I cant stand listening to him.

At the end of the day I support Everton, not Roberto Martinez, so if EVERTON get to Wembley, I will be there, just like I have the other 4 times Everton got to Wembley in my match going lifetime.

So many disappointing and frustrating things in the last couple of years but the way he has the team playing away from home is fantastic and deserves credit. I don't actually go away much now but when I did under Moyes the performances were always average and it was all about the result. Now under Martinez we actually dominate most away games for long periods. Hopefully he can get the home form sorted without coco the clown throwing the ball in his own net. Come on Roberto, you can do it.

Sorry mate your backtracking it's clear you want him out which is fine.

I thought that was a terrible performance by Martinez today. We played Bournemouth reserves today. We created nothing. At half time we were second best and needed him to manage the situation, he abdicated responsibility and left things as they were. We got a deflected goal and a second from a desperate corner. They missed a penalty and Gosling missed a sitter.
Today, at half time, was an opportunity to show leadership and nothing happened.
I extremely happy with the win and to be in the quarterfinals but if anyone is happy with what we just saw I despair.
Good grief.

Here's an interesting point though - let's set aside the defensive questions and ask whether Martinez has bought well. So, in effect, I'm asking, with a different manager to replace him, would he have left us in a better shape than when he arrived? I think one way to answer the question is to pit a Martinez XI against the remainder of the Moyes Squad

Martinez has - largely - bought younger players to supplement the existing squad.

His squad of players;

Robles,
Holgate, Mattioni, Funes Mori, Galloway - there's obviously a case to argue he's brought Stones into the side as well (Alcaraz bought and sold)

Macca, Lennon, Cleverley, Barry, Besic, McGeady - a lot of industry and only a little stardust

Geri, Rom, Kone, Oumar - the area where he's speculated a lot more.. (also E'too)

Moyes Squad:

Howard
Hibbert, Coleman, Baines, Jags, Stones
Barkley*, Osman, Pienaar, Oviedo, Gibson
Mirallas

- significant departures under Martinez you might add to the above (remaining players): Distin, Naismith, Jelavic, Anichebe, Fellaini

* whom Moyes didn't trust much

Total Spend - circa £40M

I think only a harsh critic would say he hasn't improved the squad. There's very little deadwood in our side - McGeady, Howard and Hibbert for sure - possibly all of whom won't be with us next season. The defence hasn't been improved a great deal though some promising youngsters have come (Galloway in particular).

The highlight reel at the end of the match had a glimpse of the second half kick off with lukaku and barkley kicking off the half and made realise how much they could do for this club potentially, there's so much they could do for everton in so many different ways, that image of theese two perfect specimen, jeez they look like demi gods! gives me this wonderful iconic vision of everton and I hate to say this but the manager who brought them to the team will probably be best to keep them at everton providing he grows a pair and wakes up to reality. Ahh what's the point I'll just enjoy what I can

22 players in 22 or so players out, we will lose roughly another 6-7 in the Summer.

No issue with the squad building for me, its what hes getting from the squad I take issue with.

And if by season end, we've got to either 8th or preferably 5th, we can therefore judge the season as relatively successful and not a failure.
Tenth or lower and I for one will be thoroughly underwhelmed and I suspect there'll be many more like me!!
@Dario Terracotta @The Esk @Khalekan @Groucho @Woolly Blue

Aye, I agree with that.

I've been saying for ages that, with this squad, we should be competing for a Europa League place based on our league position. That doesn't mean top six or bust, but we should be there, or thereabouts come the last five or six games of the season.

Anything else in the league, regardless of progress in cup competions, would be disappointing, though plainly, as a fan, winning something would more than make up for that dissapointment !
