Roberto Martinez discussion

But theres a happy medium to be reached surely?

I mean last season when we went 12 games without a win I can understand the frustration, but the level of bile being spouted after an "unlucky" draw yesterday is almost reaching fever pitch.
What about that can't wait to vault after we batter Aston Villa it seems like double standards to me. Going 10 games without win = frustration allowed 1 win = champions league talk

I just think without Europe we should be much higher than where we are. Effectively for the sides without European football to contend with (us, West ham, Southampton and Palace) we are below 2 of those and only a point above the other, despite us probably having man for man the better sides out of those maybe apart from 2-3 players (Payet, Mane, Wanayama, Bolasie, Cabaye).

We have the 2nd top scorer and the 2nd top assister (Rom & Del) yet will probably be 9th come the end of today. Leicester have the top scorer and sat in 3rd by perspective, we should be doing much better and for me it's the complete lack of defensive nous from the manager/no desire to press the opposition when off the ball.

It only matter where abouts in the table we are after every team has played their 38 games. What matters now is the fact we are only 4 points off 5th and 8 off the top with plenty of games left to play and make up that ground.

Every team in the league out the ones people talk about being in contention for European spots has had some wtf performances and dropped points so far - most a lot more than one result as well, if it becomes a trend then complain until then though just realise weird things happen sometimes in a game of togger
Totally agree mate some of the reactions to yesterdays result are embarrassing.

Exactly. Martinez is a director of football. He's done amazingly to bring this squad together but he is not the best coach to use them. If we finish midtable and allow Lukaku Stones Barkley and Del to leave the club without winning anything here that will be a disgrace.
I think you have a point here. A better manager would get a lot more out of this squad than Martinez is currently.

So who is a better manager, remembering who we can actually entice to our club.

So easy to make the age old statement of if we had another manager

that entire second half was absolutely shocking. Bournemouth are a very ordinary side, as evidenced by the quality of the goals we scored in the first half. For them to have a sub goalie and for us not to test him once was amazing. We just could not get the ball for a whole half. Against Bournemouth. Why not? because when we don't have the ball, we don't have a clue. No press, nothing. So when we come up against a decent team who can hold onto the ball, we are helpless. in fact we are helpless against relegation fodder if they can knock it round a bit.
And to put the top hat on it, to concede three goals in the last ten minutes.
When Roberto says credit to Bournemouth, I realise he is playing a bit of diversion, but if i were him I would be very worried indeed about the implications of that performance. Because his teams have been collapsing like that for years

It's sometimes easier and quicker to say "you're right, I'm wrong" and then back away Ian. Saves typing all that guff.

Such humility is almost unheard of on message board forums alas, Doug :(

To admit one is wrong is regarded by far too many as being the ultimate sign of weakness.

Hence the seemingly endless ping pong "debates" where the antagonists make so many posts trying to do the other down they forget what they were arguing about

You want gegenpressing?

You want gegenpressing?

Anything other than standing off the opposition and inviting pressure. I commented on the west ham game when Jenkinson took the ball from his own box and managed to run the full length of the pitch unchallenged and got a shot off at Howard.

Add in players letting players get shots off outside the box against us (Mccarthy at West Ham, Kone yesterday, Barkley against Chelsea) it's not good enough. I was never confident of us winning anything under moyes as he didn't have the attacking nous to do it, I have the exact same feeling in regards to Martinez but with his defensive nous.
