REALISTIC EXPECTANCIES FOR THE SEASON UNDER MARTNEZ

Id obviously give him a year to get his style in place etc, think every Evertonian should, unfair otherwise. But even with his settling in period, i still cant see us finishing outside the top 7. Think someone posted the other day that we finished 14 points ahead of 8th place haha. Massive gulf between the top 7 and the rest of the teams in the Premier League.

Yeah I agree. Don't get me wrong I won't get on his back, he'll need time to adapt & he'll no doubt make mistakes in the process. I'll forgive him a slightly lower league position, if we look like we're genuinely improving our overall game. I hope he makes a mockery of my misgivings about him tbh, as he comes across as a really nice fella - but part of me, thinks this also might be his weak point.
Me too, and I think most ofour reservations are re him not stabilising Wigan in the time he was there, and what went wrong last season in the pl. We have to assume for now that BK grilled him on this and got satisfactory answers...
:)

Spot on mate. People calling for top 6 appear to be ignoring all that.

If he gets us comfortably top half it'd be a result. If we fall just outside the top half (11th/12th) it'd be cause for grumbling. Only if we finish below there would I be seriously concerned.

We'd also have to factor in cup performances too. The perception of a good/poor season can be set by how far we go in them.

Cheers!
--and whilst i'm saying this, I still think we could be surprised this season too. I'm convinced that he'll have some targets beyond Wigans scope, and i'm sure an agent with a vested interest in his players stock and future will be more likely to push a striker or creative forward in RM's direction than the last manager at our club.

Huh???

You mean the Manager who just got the biggest job in World Football?

Yes Goat. With equal funding, at Everton, given the history of 'the Manager who just got the biggest job in World Football', imo, RM could attract the better striker.

The man's just taken a side down and been in a number of relegation fighst prior to that. There's no guarantee he's up to managing a club with our expectations.

I think the people who are so cock sure about relegation not being a possibilty need to not get over confident

I think a lot of things would have to go wrong all at once for it to happen, but I'm not ruling it out

If we were 10th, I'd consider that a reasonable first season for him

If we're 15th, I'll be unhappy but I wont be calling for his head

I understand where you're coming from, but for me, dropping down even 1 position is not acceptable. If the 6th best team in the richest league in the World can't attract a manager capable of pushing on straight away, then he is the wrong appointment.

Highest: 5th

Realistic: 8th - sadly all of the top 8 (except City whose season and place in the table was over as early as late Feb) finished strong and of them maybe Spurs (who will have Bale or 35-45M to spend) are the only ones I see taking a step back. It's going to be tough to overtake any of them.

Disapointing: 10th and below.

I honestly don't know how half of you make it through the day without self harming ffs.... Most pessimistic miserable bunch of supporters I've ever seen.... Don't mean to be offensive but Jesus, some of you need to ge a grip ffs

Absolute garbage.
Thanks for your considered response to my opinion orly, to dismiss it in 'absolute' terms you're obviously either involved in a football agency, or a professional footballer. As my only interest is the truth, please, if you have time that is, inform us how both are perceived from your vantage :)

If he has a bad 1st season then you can take comfort in the fact that Bill took advice from the fans on the manager selection.

Apart from that, it should be intresting to revisit this thread this time next year.

8th? So you think West Brom which was 14 points of something behind, suddenly become good and overtake us? OML.

I think setting expectations at this point are a little premature.

At least wait to see who he is allowed to bring in and who Bill has him selling off first. If Baines and Fellaini go, then my expectations will certainly be lower that they would if they don't.

Over to you Bill and Roberto.
