This is true, but it's also too easy for rabid racists to pretend they aren't because of claims of concern about "sovereignty" and "control of our courts"

And expressing a concern about uncontrolled immigration tends to fall down when presented with evidence which shows that migration adds a net positive for the country and many sectors in the UK would struggle without it.

One of the big problems with the management of immigration is dropping refugees into areas which are already deprived and already struggle with access to services - so the tension becomes heightened.

But let's contrast the presentation of Ukrainian refugees in public and press compared to those from Syria/Afghanistan....its world's apart.

100%

But they also have no clear idea of what and who they're upset about apart from muzzlims and illegals.

1...Islam has near 2 billion religious followers so you'll bump into a few.

2...there were 80k illegals (asylum seekers) last year. We've a population of 67million. We're the 6th biggest world economy. We're the 20th in the world for how many we take in.

But someone will tell you they're to blame why shops are closing down etc.

This is our migration achilles heel. The likes of Farage and even the last government use this to cloud the critical requirement we have for migrnats within our economy. Stop the boats and all that.

There is world of difference between legal migrants/people coming to work and illegal ones.
That kind of opinion is similar in every country, we (Croatia) here are on border line of EU and are in direct route of those migrants from Syria and Middle East, i genuinely cant put in words what kind of public opinon is about those people. Not to mention how our border police treats them.

On other hand guests, tourists, workers from Germany, Austria, Scandinavia and rest of Europe are readily welcomed.
Just treatment of Ukrainians compared with Syrians tells you enough, there was literally competition who gonna welcome more Ukrainian refugees.

I wonder if it's in part because it become too easy to call people right wing/racist nowadays.

Things like vote Brexit = racist gammon.

Express concern over uncontrolled immigration = racist.

People lash out if they don't feel listened to don't they?

And agitators will exploit that. And scum/opportunist arseholes will jump on.
It’s true. The centre ground is boring voice online, but it’s where most the sensible discussions take place…
Many people that voted for brexit believed that there was a Norway / Swiss style option available. Of course there never was - but let’s face it that is a centralist view point.
Equally, being sympathetic to genuine refugees but worried about unchecked immigration is probably a sensible position.
Problem is that these positions are only spoken by the people that want to push the envelope ever further. The centre ground needs to recapture the patriotism, define what makes us “British” tolerance, fairness, democratic. Too many people that i considered normal ish are now drawn the extreme.
The language caught on camera was particularly disgusting. I could barely believe my ears that people were openly using that language.
It’s a sorry state… let’s hope it’s a flash I. The pan.
Twitter needs to be ignored though by the normal people.
You can reason with bots and creating noise is there isn’t helping anyone

Right and left are passionate (especially extremes) and thrive on perpetual conflict between each other, hard for moderates (online) to compete with it.
We all know online world thrive on arguing and anonymity giving people courage to say things they are afraid to say in real world.

A significant number of people on these marches are simply racist and uninterested in mature discussions about immigration and integration. There is no excuse for targeting shop owners who contribute to our society. There's no nuance to be had, they simply do not like people of colour. I've never heard the word p***i be used so much.

You can't utter something like this on here without @Bruce Wayne appearing to tell you he's read several studies on why only by opening all borders to everyone are you not in fact a racist.
