In all seriousness, yes we have deep rooted issues in our society and yes to dismiss them doesnt help with improving the situation and can/will exacerbate the problem, but I'm sorry (not sorry), if it speaks like a fascist and acts like a fascist then it's a fascist.

The rise in right wing nationalism needs curbing asap before we reach tipping point, which history tells us won't be pleasant for anyone.

As I've explained, the vast majority of those people are students. It's funny. Last year we also had around 8 million more overseas tourists come to the country compared to the year before. I've yet to see anyone complaining that there's an additional army the size of London invading the country each year, whatever are we to do?

Ah. I'm not an avid reader of this thread so had no idea.

And most of those are students. There are around 700,000 overseas students enrolled at UK universities, which represents around a quarter of the total student body. I mean we "could" limit their numbers, and start massively increasing tuition fees for domestic students. I can't see that going down well, can you?

Aye, clearly anyone studying or coming here for work should be embraced. Along with their families. I also don't think any student should pay any tuition fee. I was the first to pay tuition fee - nobody should pay it.

Not sure the figures are the most accurate anyway.

This is our migration achilles heel. The likes of Farage and even the last government use this to cloud the critical requirement we have for migrnats within our economy. Stop the boats and all that.

Thin end of the wedge these riots. There is deep rooted general unhappiness, been building for decades and now we are at tipping point and the coins are tumbling. They are racists/facist idiots on streets smashing things up. Just the wider support they have worries me, people who would never get involved with their activities, are saying what do expect they have a point...

You're quick to dismiss people who have concern over uncontrolled migration as just being naive fools who are blagged by the media.

Perhaps some are, but;

'The latest official estimates from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) indicate that net migration in the year ending December 2023 stood at 685,000, compared with an updated estimate of 764,000 for the year ending December 2022'

What's the population of Liverpool?

Is it sustainable to add another city the size of Liverpool every year?

See, I have concerns about that. Migration is essential - but it has to be managed IMO and I feel it's too high. But expressing it is a waste of time because you're either a loon, an idiot or a racist. Or all three.

You'll have a situation where people feel they don't have a voice - and people like Trump/Farage exploit it.
685,000 might seem like a lot - and is easy to exploit for the likes of Farage and Yaxley-Lennon - but divided between a population of about 67,000,000 it's sod all, really. One in a thousand. The equivalent of an average secondary school's intake being increased by two. The equivalent of an extra 40 people in a full Goodison. Swamped? Nah, mate. We need an honest public conversation about immigration and it's huge benefits as well as its possible negatives. Sadly, Labour are cacking themselves about losing votes to ReformUK and even the EDL.

This ^^^ is how the Far Right win, btw.

Their incessant messaging about migrants and framing them as being both a law and order and resource problem drags even decent people into the vortex of discussing 'sustainable'/'unsustainable' immigration.

Improve the public transport and increase the capacity for sewage treatment for a start.

Good point but the problem is that they're not evenly distributed.
They go to already crowded places.

Another issue is that the infrastructure simply isn't there. Houses, schools, available GP/dental spaces.

The issue worldwide is that the human population is growing too quickly. Not so much an issue in western societies where the birth rate is starting to decrease in comparison to generations gone by. However in parts of Asia, Middle East & Africa they continue to breed like rabbits. Throw in conflict in those regions & you get a lot more migration into the West.
