Current Affairs P&O Ferries

I've long held the opinion that you need to be to get there, or even want it. Generalisation but its held in my experience.

Having had dealings with a number of such people, it's almost a given. You also need a complete certainty that you are right all the time, that only you can solve an issue and for your work to be the most important thing in your life. Absolute wrong'uns to a (usually) man.

I have never used P&O and I certainly will not in the future. B&I during the 80s regularly following Everton and I know they were reasonable employers until they eventually went out of business. I had a good friend who worked on the ships.

I have been a Union official all my career and this is disgusting.

Retired now, but still support vulnerable workers.

Pretty sure most CEO's/high up execs who make these decisions are actual psychopaths
The same is generally true of world leaders.
Disgusting.

Shocked I tells ya.

Good look to them.

This particular set of psychopaths seems more dim than most. Companies don't generally 'globalize' their workforce all at once because that's bad PR.

I`ve got a mate who`s pretty high up in HR, in a big pharma company Neil and she says that a lot of the really top bosses almost perfectly fit the medical definition of functioning Sociopaths.
To be fair, I grew up with the boss of P&O Cruises and I wouldn't have marked him down as a sociopath. I haven't really kept in touch mind you. He was just a tour rep when I last knew him.

As an ex CEO from a different industry, my view is that those that do what P&O have just done are stupid. Most CEO’s are not stupid. Anyone who thought they could replace U.K. employees with East European employees, via a newly established recruitment company, and in the manner that they have done, are not merely greedy but incredibly stupid. P&O ferries won’t be sailing for a while…

The unions also need to get their brains in gear, a Tory MP turned up to support them and got dogs abuse from the usual left wing mob. How do they think this will play in a Tory government, how on gods earth do they think this will persuade Tory ministers to get behind them…ffs, there some right stupid people involved here…..

Pure arrogance

You would be amazed at how many British flagged ships are sailing to and from British ports with East European officers and crews.

I can imagine. While P&O cruises, a completely separately owned company, tends to have U.K. officers, it employs many foreign nationals behind the bars and restaurants. And tbh, these staff are first class…..

I'm still amazed that "East European" can be thrown about as a catch all pejorative to distinguish someone from sophisticated West Europeans.
You are absolutely right. I've sailed with many of these "Eastern Europeans" and found that some of them are almost human, a lot of them even speak English better than some British people I know lollol

As far as training and technical knowledge goes, it's pretty much to an international standard these days. Much of the equipment carried by ships is standard stuff so there's no reason why officers and crew, who have never even seen a P&O ferry before, would not be comfortable operating one in a short space of time.
