Gone down hill drastically this season but he has been superb as a 'professional' since he's been here. Top guy.

Captain going, manager possibly going, star players possibly going... this summer might not be so fun!!!

Just when you think yesterdays news would take alot of beating this happens lol

Am I missing something? What happened yeaterday?

Edit- Really? Neither are positives.

He's been a good captain & up until about 2 years ago a good player. Good luck Nev.

I appreciate hard work from the players, but also believe it should be a given fact week in week out that our players give it their all.

I agree to an extent, mate, but if Phil Neville represents the minimum requirement of effort and professionalism, you'll constantly be disappointed. I think he went above and beyond what your average player does, to try and better himself and the team.

But none with us and that's the difference. All of his medals at United were with him as a bit-part player.

Yeah I know

I enjoy the song though, even if just from an ironic sense. Sums up the Everton sense of humour I think and it used to wind up Kopite's, which is all that matters really.

Neville has always been a player that has been more important for his leadership qualities and professionalism above his skill level. That being said, I have seen him enter a number of solid performances for the club. This season hasn't been an overly good one for him on the pitch, but I still admire him as a proessional and I will be grateful for the years of loyal service to the club.

Bit upset to see so many people revelling in him leaving to be honest. Regardless of ability, he's always put a shift in and clearly worked hard to maintain his fitness over the years. He was never just collecting a pay cheque here, unlike other veterans players that came to Goodison for a quick soujourn before retirement *cough* Ginola and Gazza *cough*

Some unfair posts in here. People are allowed to have a negative opinion of Neville without being called sad or pathetic. Not on that.

Yes they are allowed, but they should think little bit what kind of crap they shout out off their mouths.

*respect like ffs

You can't rewrite history, or ignore the fact for large parts of his Everton career, he wasn't good enough.

Top captain, top pro which i'll always respect him for, he did a lot for us, but for me his primary function was as a player, which in my opinion he just wasn't good enough at (save that half season he played alongside Arteta).

Still wish him all the best for the future, but I'm not losing any sleep over him leaving.

They are allowed but is this thread really the best place to do it? There are plenty of other Neville threads for that.

It sums up the desperate measures some fellow blues stoop down to, just to wind up the red side - except the red side have the easy retort that their captain has won all the cups for their own club.

It's as bad as we don't care what the red side say...what the heck do we care?

We care enough to mention them, twice, in our own club anthem...

Phil Neville was just another example of how we like to talk ourselves down when comparing to the two red teams. It does not do our hunt for a winning mentality any good (which would have seen some draws this season turn to wins).

Thatcher dies, Neville leaving... this takeover rumour crap might just be on lads!!!!

...ah - just season ticket renewal time isn't it ;)

Its the right time for him to go. Would have loved to see him lift a trophy for us, you can tell he was proud to play for us.

Ability wise, he was nowhere near as crap as some people make out. Obviously he was no Arteta, but his tackling, positioning and organisation was very good for most of the time, and he could fill in almost anywhere on the pitch. Not a bad player at all, and his collection of medals DOES prove that.

And it's only in this last season that he has become truly dog turd (he's lost it). He looked more than fine playing alongside Gibson, with Fellaini in front of them, at the end of last season.

Can see your point mate, but at the end of the day, what's the point in being rivals with someone else if you don't have the odd pop at them? It's all done for fun really. We wind them up, they wind us up.

Yes we seem to have given ourselves the underdog tag and wear it with perhaps a little too much gusto sometimes, but hey, that shouldn't stop us having a go at the reds now and then, even if done in an ironic sense

Thanks Phil!
Yes it's gone on a couple of years too long, but in the past Phil Neville has been the heart and soul of Everton out on the pitch.
Good luck man!
