Nikica Jelavic

Jelavic's movement is far and away superior to Anichebe's, even now when he's "out of form". I think you're smart enough to know that, and I think you're smart enough to know that you don't judge a striker's performance by goals alone.

I don't even think that can be debated.

It probably is overall, but I wouldn't over egg the pudding on the movement stuff. Better movement would see him keeping onside more often, and not commting himself to a cross to early (as he did last night - again), and being on his toes to turn away from defenders (something he accomplished in spades last season but hasn't been at the races with this season).

Everyone wants season one Jelavic back, but it's perfectly reasonable to point out the extent of this slump and not to excuse it.

A striker can have the best movement in the world but if he can't put the ball in the net he's useless. Look at Torres, good movement all season long yet he's been awful.

Although he does fall over a lot, I think you may be overplaying that a little. He was falling over last season too. I remember moaning about it then, but was less arsed as he scored as well.

And he was on the left flank way way too much last night.

I really don't think I am overplaying it. The guy is a bonafide coward when it comes to getting physically stuck in. No problem with his skill, everyone has off periods and confidence issues, but there is no doubt that he's as soft as a slice of sponge cake (and moist cake at that). He's been far worse this season and is in instant need of a back bone and set of you know whats down below

he had half a good season lads I could understand those who say keep the faith he was boss last season but he had half a season, like I said if no one is interested keep him but if he continues to fire blanks yet a team like sunderland/fulham come calling with a daft £7-10 mil bid for him snap their hands off and bring in a quality striker, that money could go towards getting us Benteke from Villa should especially if they go down or Negredo or someone like that.

Actually, the fact he's still straying offside often means he's still working to get into areas. I'd agree with you that it's a symptom of identifying a "poor" performance - and don't get me wrong Jelavic has had a few of them this year - but I'm talking about yesterday specifically. He wasn't offside constantly, his movement was good, he looked lively and he was involved in play.

Which is very encouraging, because as long as the movement is better, then the finishes will come. Let's face it, the difference between an Osman goal and a Jelavic goal last night is about six inches. Jelavic, in a poor performance, wouldn't have made that run.

Which is why the following is mind-numbingly stupid...

lol at the example of Victor. I'm sure he'd have been lauded for his 'intended' assist, in dummying the keeper with his airshot last night

The RUN was intended, so everything that results from that run is attributable to the movement being made. To put it VERY simply, if he doesn't make that run, the goal isn't scored, meaning the movement is valid.

NOBODY can be this stupid - I refuse to believe anybody can be this mind-numbingly dumb. This is by far and away the most stupid thing I've seen on GOT since pgheverton.

You're the only one completely neglecting the fact he made a run to get in that position. Stupid.

This answers that better than anything I can say really:

Much, much, much more to performance than goals.

I'm not sure I understand the reference, listing a bunch of guys who have had their playing time cut or have been moved from a striker's role because of production (Rooney due to injury). Seems to support that you need both performance and production.

Adebayor hasn't had his playing time cut, he's just been utter gash. Aguero cost £40m but has only scored 9 times.

Without decent movement, you don't get in to the positions to score goals to win games.

To say that without the finish the movement means nothing is stupid - there's no other way to describe it. Saying that indicates a terrible knowledge of football.

Goals aren't the be all, end all of a performance for a striker.

And without finishing from decent movement you don't score goals to win games.

I don't think it's stupid or it indicates a terrible knowledge of football to say you need to score goals. Not rocket science is it.

Adebayor started 32 matches last year, 10 this year. Some of it's down to the AFC, but he's clearly second this season.

Aguero has been substituted liberally as they obviously have many options. Having said that, I don't think anyone in their right mind should be comparing Aguero and Jelavic.
