Nikica Jelavic

You're not seriously suggesting those two efforts are worthy of distinction?

Look, he's on the field of play, I'd be surprised if in 90 minutes he didn't influence some part of the game. Overall though he's not playing well is he? Or have we all got that wrong?

Of course I am, he's a striker; they're examples of a striker making movement that defeats the defence, one of those occasions directly resulting in a goal. I assume Osman's "header on goal" would have went in if Jelavic didn't make that run across Bouzanis? Of course not.

I'm not saying he put in a superstar performance, but you'd swear going on the reaction on here that he's just done a Nyarko or something.

He was 6/10; decent, part of an attacking unit that worked well, good movement, Mirallas the star on the night.

There were a number of times in the game where he had the chance to create something but he took such a poor touch that the move broke down.

He's massively out of touch.

haha he missed the ball FFS, it wasn't some fantastic disguised run, he went to score & missed the ball lol

Involved in a lot we did tonight. Was very close to having won 2 penalty's, setting up a goal and scoring 1. Sure his touch was off, he made the wrong decisions on more than 1 occasion to get himself in good scoring posistions but you'd expect that from a player lacking confidence and out of form.

Can he be what he was when he joined consistently for the next 4 yrs for us? Prob not, but with vic and hopefully another striker coming in the summer, he'll come good enough to still be important.

Honest questions:

  • Did he trap the whipped in ball from the left from Mirallas well, twist away and Jagielka hoofed it over?
  • Did he move intelligently into space to receive the ball worked from the right by Mirallas, then lay off for Gibson to fire over.
  • Did he make the same intelligent run in behind as Mirallas at the far post for the first goal?

  • [*]Did he stay onside and be the sole factor for Bouzanis not getting on to Ossies goal?

Just to be sure I'm not imagining them! That's before you mention the fact he could have had two penalties, moved into space well all night, got his head on a high cross but unfortunately jumped too early etc. etc.

I have absolutely no idea how anyone can class that as a "rank" game from Jelavic. Mind-boggling.

Should have done better and scored himself, actually. If the keeper didn't make an awful mistake it would have gone down as a bad miss.

And? That doesn't negate the actual movement to get there.

If Mirallas missed the first goal the run is still decent to get in behind. The cross from Gibson would still have been a dangerous cross if nobody had got on the end of it.

He missed the shot - it means his finishing was off, but his movement was fine. The world is black and white to you, it really is.

And if I had wheels, I'd be a wagon.

The miss doesn't negate the run.

if we got offered anything around £7-8 mil for him I would bite their hand off and use that towards someone like Negredo we are a top class striker and CM away from top 4.

He has the touch of a rapist at the moment. He'll be back though....

A Jelavic is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.

Isn't the whole point of a striker to do the finishing bit?

If his 'finishing is off' then that's definitely not a good sign.

You could have a striker who found the top corner with every touch he has - if he's not good enough to get in those positions to actually shoot then he's useless.

Finishing is confidence, movement is intelligence.

You seem to think you're some kind of expert & yet you spout utter nads IMO.

Jela was poor tonight & offered no goal threat at all, against a crap league 1 side. He's woefully out of form & showed it yet again this evening. He needs a spell on the bench, but we've got no cover
