Nikica Jelavic

Well, what do we think now about the theory that Fellaini crowds Jelavic out?

Can people not see the difference between this performance and his other ones though? Granted his touch was woeful in this game and his confidence looked shot BUT he was in better positions, he had to be hauled down twice in the middle of the peanlty area to stop him connecting with crosses, he hasn't even been in the penalty area for most of the rest of the season. He was getting on the end of through balls (sadly miscontrolling), and with a bit more luck would have glanced in Osman's header. If we keep that formation he will score. If we go back to trying to hit Fellaini with long balls for him to glance down to Jelavic on the left wing then the goal dorught will continue. Push Fellaini further back and lets see Pienaar Mirallas and Osman or Naismith feeding balls into him.

FFS posted this in the match thread by accident...

We've just won 3-1, with Jelavic involved in two of the three goals (distracted the 'keeper for Ossies, and basically won the penalty - or should have anyway) and who could have had two assists if Gibson and Jagielka had their shooting boots on, yet because he hasn't scored he's played badly apparently.

Didn't see much wrong with him at all today. A few loose touches, but he worked his arse off throughout, worked the channels again, made intelligent movement, acted as a water carrier repeatedly for Pienaar and Mirallas. A decent centre forwards game.

People seem to be tying too much importance on him nudging one in off his arse or something. If he had flicked in the Osman goal, people would be saying he had a good game.

TBH I thought he looked all over the show. Not that I'm arsed, he's gonna get back to himself and do the biz for us. I'm sure of it.

Exactly this. It's like Bizarr-o-world on here tonight where people are being miserable about literally everything when we've just done a professional cup job and looked in cruise control all night.

The point is not that it wasn't different without Fellaini, but that he failed to take advantage of the responsibility of leading the line in Felli's absence.

Then we can kiss goodbye to any decent PL finish and cup run. We desperately need him to start finding something.

Absolute nonsense. Never stopped working once, didn't shirk away from anything.

I can accept he wasn't "brilliant" but people are making out like he was Brett Angell.

That performance he gave out there tonight mate is on a par with Angel and I seen him enough.

The problem is that we know he's capable of so much more.

Just to clarify: no one doubts Jelavic is working hard enough. He's obviously pulling his tripes out. It's his composure and movement that's under question. It's like invasion of the body snatchers and we've been left with the zombie.

Mirallas played a belter through ball into him near the end of the first half and it just bounced off his right leg as he went to control it. Summed him up for me atm.

I don't think it was an improvement. He was in the box... Which he's supposed to be. But theres no real intelligence in his work rate imo. There's no dropping deep, playing one twos, pulling defenders. Then there's the woeful touch and holdup play.

He needs a one on one and a personal boost because he looks terrible imo.
