Nikica Jelavic

He couldn't use that excuse last night mate. Sheamus, Baines, Kevin and Pienar were occupying the wings. It's hard to score with one touch when you tumble at the meer touch of a defender though...

Although he does fall over a lot, I think you may be overplaying that a little. He was falling over last season too. I remember moaning about it then, but was less arsed as he scored as well.

And he was on the left flank way way too much last night.

The thing with Vellios is whenever he's played (albeit very little) I haven't really noticed him. He doesn't seem the type of player to put a shift in, something which I believe is a common criticism of him in the U-21's (If I recall correctly).

I'd love to be proved wrong and I certainly haven't written the lad off but I'm not expecting him to ever become a first team regular.

You're probably right mate. And without any doubt i'm biased because he's so sexy.

I've heard he won't put the work rate in too. But that might even be a good thing. Jelavic spends half his time out wide. Might be good to have a striker who stays central.

Oh yes of course. I mean just look at his eyes FFS!

I really hope I'm wrong but he's now playing far less than he was a season or two ago. He's probably a bit fed up of the U-21's but he's got to prove himself there first before he can be a regular even on the bench.

I have heard rumours about him having a bit of a crap attitude. NEA

Urm what?

That sentence was completely logical. I think if you look up the rules of football you need to score goals to win games, without anyone to finish you can't score goals, and therefore win games.

Without decent movement, you don't get in to the positions to score goals to win games.

To say that without the finish the movement means nothing is stupid - there's no other way to describe it. Saying that indicates a terrible knowledge of football.

Goals aren't the be all, end all of a performance for a striker.

Lol your usual MO appears, look to degrade the opinion of the poster & avoid answering the actual point made with some childish inane deflection.

Either challenge the post or pipe down love

I'm not degrading your opinion - I'm saying what you said is completely invalid so as to not even constitute an opinion.

It's like me saying milk tastes like onions or something. It's that stupid.

I think Moyes should try to play Vellios with Anichebe/Jelavic.. Lots of heading strength to nod on the ball, and from what I've seen he can put out a decent pass as well. Not sure if he got the composure/speed to play as a lone striker though.

Vellios needs to get himself a better agent. I'd have been looking for a way out of Everton twelve months ago if I was him.

Same with Duffy, Barkley etc. At other clubs you see youngsters given either a consistent run in the first team or cameos off the bench regularly or, if they're on the fringe but surplus to requirements, you'll see them loaned out - basically, everything done to give them game time.

The tactic at Everton seems to be to tempt them to believe they have a chance of a place in the first team, and then pull the rug out completely - sometimes for no apparent reason like Duffy, or sometimes for over-exaggerated reasons like Barkley - letting them rot in the reserves until they're released to Chesterfield or something.

Sad but appears to be true. Another comfortable cup game last night where someone other than naismith and hitz could have come on for some experience.

The annoying thing is a lot non-Everton football fans think we're really good with youngsters because of Rooney.

It must be disheartening, especially when senior players are persisted with through even the worst spells of poor form. Also, I imagine the fact that one mistake usually sees a young player disappear for months on end would make it difficult for them to go out and perform.

Our younger sides are some of the best around. It seems to be the step up from Academy to first team which the club appears to struggle with. If players like Velios, Barkley, Garbutt etc. are never going to play for our first team, until the development years have passed them by, I often wonder why we don't have some sort of agreement with someone like Tranmere. A club struggling with finances, who would welcome the chance to loan players of that ilk. Tranmere have been loaning Championship reserve strikers all season cos they couldn't afford Premier League ones. Surely a deal could be done for Velios to get 20+ games for them, first team football is massively different to anything else, and vital for player development.

I agree with not playing him, i don't dispute that. I doubt very much that it will take forever, it could require a good long pre-season; i doubt we'll see the best of him this season but I won't call him rubbish, he's one of the most natural goalscorers we've seen (last year), its all confidence. Every striker goes through a baron spell

I'd rather play an out of form Jelavic than Vellios, as much as i think the kid is a really good lad he his not the most talented footballer. An impact sub at best

But hes not even bringing him on. Lift the burden

He's got more assists than Phil Neville too
