Nikica Jelavic

He was great last season. No doubt about it.

But he isn't right now. What's the point in playing him at the minute? Is it blind faith that he might get good again? That could take forever!

I think its more in hope that he plays himself into some type of form again. He looks like he is trying/thinking too hard about everything, while last leason it came naturally to him by instinct.

His confidence is shot, needs a goal badly.

He needs to toughen up. Defensive players are aware of him now and are shoving and kicking him out of the game. He needs to stay on his feet and start fighting back. It's worth a few yellows to make defenders start thinking twice.

He's goes down far too easy as well. Big Dunc would have laughed in these defenders faces but Jelavic goes straight down. Leave that rubbish to the Nani's of this world. You have to sycthe Victor in two before he even entertains the fact of going down

I don't see why Vellios is not getting any game time.

We have 2 strikers. 1 out of form. The other injured. It's just common sense to bring the fringe player in to prove himself.

Its what's infuriating with Moyes. The stubbornness just to look at a player who's out of form/tired etc and let someone else play. It's as though we've not got a 25man squad.

Agreed entirely.

I agree with not playing him, i don't dispute that. I doubt very much that it will take forever, it could require a good long pre-season; i doubt we'll see the best of him this season but I won't call him rubbish, he's one of the most natural goalscorers we've seen (last year), its all confidence. Every striker goes through a baron spell

I'd rather play an out of form Jelavic than Vellios, as much as i think the kid is a really good lad he his not the most talented footballer. An impact sub at best

As most people will recognize in any place of work there's nothing more frustrating that seeing someone not up to a job getting chance after chance while you have shown you can do it but don't get a sniff of a chance. It's also sends a message out to other people you work with that If your in the bosses good books you get a chance, otherwise forget it.

It's a bad, bad atmosphere to work in. Worth giving people a go just to avoid this.

I think it unfair to Velios to dismiss him as merely an "impact sub" when we haven't seen what the lad can do given a run of a few games in which he starts.

Jelavic is either sustaining a prolonged spell of bad form or he is not very good and the last few months of last season was a flash in the pan.

No matter.....the bottom line is he is not doing it for us at the moment and we need to try something different.

I would start with Velios on Saturday against Reading and see what he can do.

Completely agree with you mate!

Not many, but he's not crap, far from it. Look at last season, his touch was amazing and everytime he was in the box it was one touch and in. Its confidence, and its affecting his entire time on the pitch; players do not loose skill and they certainly cannot fake looking good for 6 months

its hard to score with one touch when you always have the ball on the wing

The thing with Vellios is whenever he's played (albeit very little) I haven't really noticed him. He doesn't seem the type of player to put a shift in, something which I believe is a common criticism of him in the U-21's (If I recall correctly).

I'd love to be proved wrong and I certainly haven't written the lad off but I'm not expecting him to ever become a first team regular.
