Don't doubt your source but I don't think that explains his form. It's not like he isn't trying, if anything he's trying too hard. And he'd be more likely to get a pay rise if he was still scoring.

I actually don't disagree with that in so much as i'm not sure that's the main contributor to his current form however I do think that contract issues led to him taking his eye off the ball and may well have started this downward spiral in his form.

Wonder why... Thinking about it logically, what has been the one ever-present factor at Everton over the last 10 years... ;)

Personally i think Moyes expects to much from strikers in terms of system and work rate, whether its fatique or plain frustration is debatable mate, its a tough number playing the lone forward role for us with the workrate expected. Yak is a perfect example for me - he got a shedload by poaching for Blackburn last season.

Also think Jela is jacked - if you look at our squad and the players who have struggled this season are the ones who didnt do a decent preseason because of the Euros.

Agree completely mate.

Jelavic seems to work the channels more this year. Maybe he's not seeing as much of the ball and he's going looking for it? Maybe Moyes has asked for more work rate out of him? It seems like the gaffer isn't content with a forward who hangs around the area gobbling up chances. He wants someone who will also hold the ball up, pressurise defenders and chase lost causes into the corners. It's difficult to think of many forwards who do that as well as scoring goals. Maybe only Lambert at Southampton.

He's a temperamental Croatian and he's trying hard to force the issue but its making it worse. He'll be back with a vengeance.

Good call on the Pre Season though, probably a big factor in fitness levels at certain points of the season.

I'm honestly surprised that anybody could deny Jelavic has been chasing the ball out wide and been used as a target man far more than last season. Perhaps part of that is as a result of our left side being locked down, to the point where Jelavic feels like he has to hunt for the ball to get involved. The answer to that of course is to play the ball down the right more often, something that's difficult when our only attacking right back is injured consistently.

good job we bought another one. oh wait, we still play neville. i know people will hark on with he's only 18, very young for prem etc. - but i seriously doubt he'd have been worse than neville has been last two games. Obviously giving him his debut at OT would have been stupid and he was cup tied for FA Cup, so wouldn't have been able to play the last two games. But surely he has to be a consideration while coleman's out? The lad has got to learn sometime, if he makes mistakes, it's better to make them when you're young to learn from them...that's my opinion anyway

Also, the argument that Stone will make mistakes and cost us points is a bit silly when Neville is due at least one blown offside trap, dangerous turnover, failed tackle every match. At least Stone has upside.

They should be playing the rocky soundtrack to him 24/7. He's let us down so far this season and we really need him to step up for us now. If he could grab a couple for us today i think it could make a huge difference to him and to the team for the rest of our games. These next 2 games will make or break our season imo. Anything less than 6 points then the top 4 will be out of the window. Less than 4 points and i think we'll finish out of the top 6.
