New Stadium or Redeveloped Goodison?

Which would you prefer?

Ah.
Seems a bit absurd that really.
It is from what I can tell, however I do not profess to be any form of expert so hopefully someone on here can provide accurate information?

I'm just basing it from what I read regarding CPOs from the proposed HS2 (High Speed 2) railway line which has government backing.

redeveloping goodison sounds great but for it to be great it would need to retain significant parts of its features, but ts these exact features that make it unworkable for taking us into the future. If we completely redesign the goodison site to remove these idiosyncrasies then we may as well move to a better (and no doubt cheaper) site to start off with. Now, I'd prefer a new site, but with a design that takes design styles from the old lady, close to the pitch, steep high sides, and I think a low slanted roof to keep the noise in and a personal Chang draft pump in every seat.

I wondered as much, I'd be interested to hear what an expert had to say on what factors a court would use to determine the legitimacy of a cpo or indeed a challenge to one.

There are areas of Liverpool that need regenerating badly, what better to way to improve an area by allowing a Premier League Club like Everton to build a boss new ground and bring in all kinds of revenue and trade to the area. If we built a new ground, i wouldnt want a ground slapped on a field, id want a complex/area full of shops, chippies and pubs (if there arent any there already) with the Club having a hand in them and making money off them (If that makes sense).

Question. Just a thought. If we were to build on a new site are there any derelict areas of docks on the banks of the Royal Blue Mersey around Sandhills or Kirkdale areas? Areas ripe for development.

Yes and no. The Liverpool Waters project owned by Peel Holdings is being built on the water front which has a large areas of open space.

However, I think their is a lack of footprint for a stadium built between the Bramley Moor and the Princes Dock when you consider the basins.

On the other side of the road there's a lot of private properties so would need to purchase substantial numbers to build a stadium.

It really does mate.

It is line with my thinking on the state milking the most out of its assets, especially in central London, rather than selling them off. (For a different thread I know).

Hopefully the club would look to restrain any price inflation, if it was involved in those kinds of commercial enterprises, to take the burden off fans. It can be a mutually beneficially arrangement.

Thanks mate. A new stadium would look great along the river.

I've thought the same for a long time and did some own personal research on the subject just out of complete interest.

The area for the Liverpool Waters project as a whole is large. The problem is it's quite fragmented due to the docks, waterways and the quaysides.

From what I can tell, the building of a stadium and all its access routes and additional parking would need a reasonable footprint which isn't there.

Or at least without filling the above areas which in itself I would expect to be a difficult and costly procedure.

Comparable with some of the dredging works needed for the London Underground upgrades. Would add a premium to an already expensive endeavour. There is an absolutely clear economic benefit to the city and region from redeveloping brownfield sites, that should be used to leverage an attractive land purchase deal for the club. If only we had someone other than Elstone at the negotiating table - let's hope mosh attends to that as a priority.

Yes. It would be very expensive to fill in any disused docks, locks and basins.

Redevelop Goodison, bring it's facilities up to date, increase the capacity and preserve our heritage.

It won't be long till there are very few of the historic stadiums left, and having the best of both worlds wouldn't make us unique ( our neighbours across the park and the other reds down the East Lancs come to mind ) but it would set us apart.

If we end up moving then it needs some real vision to give us somewhere special to move to.
